Find Ancestors

Trying to find marriage record for John Myers (known as Fred). Born in Sheffield in 1876. Census found for 1911,1901, 1891,1881 Parents Thomas Myers (1855) and Annie Myers (1853)(Bowker). In 1901 states he is married and by 1911 he is a widow and in 1891 single.

Any help greatly appreciated also any information on Annie Bowker his mother and if she had any other children. I think she died in about 1918.

I know Thomas remarried and had more children (one being my grandfather).

Does his wife show on the 1901?

Also - the 1881 and 1891 at least might show other siblings. Have you tried to find Thomas and Annie in the 1871?

His wife does not show in same house unfortunately and in the other census there is only him.

My Grandad seemed to think that he had a brother called Robert though?

Found Thomas and Annie but no other children in other census

When did Thomas and Annie marry? I can't see a wedding reg'n.

Not sure, In 1881 they were married and John lived with them. In 1871 Thomas Myers was about 15 years old and lived at home with parents in Spalding

Found them in 1881, 1891 and 1901.

If it wasn't for Thomas' birthplace I'd wonder if they were the same lot - he changed his occupation a lot didn't he?

No sign of other children though ... was hoping a marriage might pin down the likelihood of any children born before John.

Yes, he also married again a lady called Lucy Carratt

John Fred was my Grandad's half brother but as Thomas was pretty old by then grandad always suspected that actually John might be his dad in truth

Is it possible that Annie was married before and therefore Robert could be hers by her first marriage?

oh maybe. the date of birth I have for Robert is 1874, there might also be a Eliza as well???!! But can't find anything on her either

she was about 23 when Fred was born

Yes. It would (should) confirm his parents' names and if he is a direct ancestor you want to be sure you are following the right family ...

I can't seem to find him on the birth records at all. Wondering now if different surname, very confusing!!!

Are you sure about Annie Bowker? This looks like a possible marriage and in 1881 they have a Bramhall living with them;
