In what sense are you trying to find her?

Have you done any bmd searches?

How did you get back to her?

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 24 Jun 2010 11:16

she may not have been registered but have you tried FreeBMD for her birth . Did she marry ?if so her marriage should be on there too

Flick

Flick Report 24 Jun 2010 11:18

Who did she marry?

Colonel Lightowler 1872 Bradford Yorkshire - West Riding, West Yorkshire
John Brayshaw Reed 1872 Bradford Yorkshire - West Riding, West Yorkshire
Jane Ellen Sarthrop 1872 Bradford Yorkshire - West Riding, West Yorkshire
Tamar Warrier 1872 Bradford Yorkshire - West Riding, West Yorkshire

I have to say I would seriously doubt that her surname was as per the marriage record........there is NO other instance of the name on Ancestry

Do you have the actual cert?

Sylvia .I think you must have looked at your other thread to note the spelling difference on the marriage cert .It would have been polite to acknowledge the info found on there.
Only one posting for the same linked family is the T&Cs so as peoplle dont waste their time doing duplicate look ups.
You could try to find birth certs for one of her children to see how her surname was spelt

Hello everyone. Sylvia has been posting messages since last year and I often sent her a note to let her know how to find and respond to her threads.

In December she took exception to being reminded and sent me a rather unpleasant pm. I have not reminded her since then although I have noticed that she has occasionally responded - so she does know how!

Hi Cynthia at one time you made my life very unpleasent, did you know there is another Sylvia and she has not replied anyone helping her, this was told to me by a kind soul well known on here who asked me if I understood the Threads, so I said I did not, she explained the procedure to me and I have been slowly trying to catch up, I have just got home from a three week holiday and thought i would put the Sarthrop name in, In BMD it is down as Sarthorp I will now explain my position 8 years ago i had a large heart by pass and it took a little bit of my memory, I forget the things at time I should remember, It is n ot very nice thing to have when the rest of your brain works okay, and to have a wigging like you have given me in a public place I find unbelievable, perhaps a public apology would not be out of place, to the rrest who replied thank you Yes Jane was married to Colonel Lightowlers, Sylvia

The ONLY way to progress is to purchase the marriage cert..............it will cost £9.25 and give you the info you need.

Dear Sylvia, you are still in my contacts list so there is a list of all the times I sent you messages in order to help you. I sent them to you as I did not want you to miss out on your replies.

You eventually told me that I was a blasted nuisance because I wrote to you regularly and that I was not to write again. I haven't.

My messages to you have never been anything other than polite. Cx.

I tend to think that if people know they may have trouble replying to messages -- they will be out of town, they are kept busy looking after a family member, they have memory or comprehension problems -- it would be wise to say so in the first place. (And in each thread they start -- no one here knows or remembers which John or Jane is starting a thread. Including Cynthia.)

Nobody who answers a thread is clairvoyant. Nobody knows that when a person never returns or says thanks, it's because they've had emergency surgery (which would be one of a few good reasons for not returning). And nobody reads all the threads on the board or has total recall of everything posted every day.

After all, they're the ones asking for help. Imagine asking a stranger to help you carry your groceries, and then forgetting to be home when they get there!

I'll bet there have been many suggestions that you click on "My threads" to find your posts, Sylvia. Someone with total amnesia who still made their way to this site could find all their threads that way. ;)

A public apology would not be out of place, indeed.

Maybe this will settle it.

Jane in 1891:

Name: Jane E Lightowler
Age: 37
Estimated birth year: abt 1854
Relation: Wife
Spouse's name: Colonel
>> Where born: Norwood Green, Yorkshire, England

1871

Name: Jane Northrop
Age: 17
Estimated birth year: abt 1854
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: William
Mother's Name: Harriet
>> Where born: Mold Green; Kirkheaton, Yorkshire, England

Civil parish: Dalton
County/Island: Yorkshire
Registration district: Huddersfield

William Northrop 52
Harriet Northrop 49
Ann Northrop 19
Jane Northrop 17
Elizabeth Northrop 15
Ellen Northrop 12

Norwood Green and Moldgreen are about 6 miles apart -- Norwood Green is north and slightly west of Moldgreen. In 1871 the family was living in Mold Green, so I might take that as sloppy reporting, which was not uncommon.

Sar-throp, Nor-throp -- maybe it depended on whether she considered herself born in Norwood Green (north) or Mold Green (sarth)!

In 1851 the family was in Penistone, just east of Barnsley. I can't find them at all in 1861.

Births Jun 1854
NORTHROP Jane Huddersfield 9a 315

There's no "Ellen", but it's the closest I see. And interestingly, she had a sister Ellen.

Certainly the marriage certificate / a child's birth certificate will give an answer. More threads won't.

Hi Janey, the Funny thing is I was bred and born on Norwood Green Thank you for this Information, with the surgery I had my loss of memory stems from the nesthetic not the actuall surgery, it is very hard admitting something like that, and maybe I too should apologies to cynthia, I was a lot cross that day, it just seemed to be that I had no sooner entered the item and their she was, I am sorry Cynthia. Thanks to all of you who ried to help me, Sylvia PS as I said i come from N Green and yes I can remember the name Northrop but I do not know why, maybe it will come to me

Apology accepted Sylvia. I notice that Flick responded to your query within three minutes of it being posted, which is pretty slick - slick Flick!! :))

If folk haven't responded back within around 24 hours, then I send them a polite reminder.
