I was asked by an acquaintance to have a go at her family tree and in my stupidity I sai yes. Well, I am well and truly stuck before I even get started. This is the info I have.

Peter Joseph Kiley married Harriet Dix. I was told the spelling was DIX. Harriet was supposedly born December 1902. The locations of birth and marriages etc. was unknown. I searched first of all for a marriage of a Peter Joseph Kiley to a Harriet Dix but only one came up and the surname was spelt DICKS. The marr was J/A/S 1920 registered Bedwelty. I then tried for births between Kiley and Dicks/Dix and several came up, most registered Bedwelty but the last few reg Coventry but all with maiden spelt DICKS. This is where the family ultimately lived. As Harriet was supposedly born 1902 I tried the free 1911 search and found DICKS Harriet age 42 and a Harriet DICKS aged 19. I am assuming these to be mother and daughter. The area was Bedwelty so that looked good but the age of Harriet junior would make her year of birth 1892-ish not 1902. With this in mind I went to the 1901 census and found no Harriet Dix/Dicks living Bedwelty but did find one b. 1894 supposedly born Aberbeeg, Monmouthshire.

Now I have no knowledge at all of places etc. in Wales and do not know if Bedwelty and ~~Aberbeeg are small villages in close proximity but until I can klocate the correct Harriet I have no chance at all of progressing.

Am I on the right path do you think with this mother and daughter combo, or am I going in the complete wrong direction ? can anyone suggest what else I can do to find Harriet ? Thank you

Thank you both. Do I assume that this Harriet 9 not 19 is the one I found and that the Harriet age 42 is not anything to do with her? Excuse my ignorance, but is Nantyglo where they appear to be living near or a part of the Bedwelty reg. dist ? Thank you.

Bedwelty is a registration district rather than a village. It borders on Monmouthshire I believe.

Brummiejan - no I had not got that one. I was so non-plussed about the shambles I was in I must have missed it. I am noting it now just in case. Thank you.

Harriet Dicks on 1911 mistranscribed also says she was at school at 19 which was highly unlikely in those days and they normally list them in order of age so a 19 yr old would not come under a 10 yr old
