Sorry to add to queries but have got John's marriage cert to Florence Cranswick on June 4th 1889. He gives his age as 32, bachelor, hosier of 88 High Street Notting hill and his father's name as Richard Hawkins (deceased). I cannot find any John Hawkins of about his age with a father Richard anywhere. He gives one of the marriage witnesses as Mary Popham Hawkins but the only Mary with father Richard in Bridgewater had a brother John b 1847/8 in 1861 census. Please can you offer any suggestions? |

Hi certs arrived today and I should have listened to you...neither were my Amelia (Hawkins d 1883 not her and the baby was nothing to do with either of them). Found an Amalia Jahn m Norwich 1870 but her husband was Hunt so presumably she is discounted as Frank's birth cert says mother's name is Amelia Hawkins formerly Jahn. Can't find an Amelia who married into Jahn family. Feel certain that you have found Frank - it feels right but not convinced Emily is the mother. Cannot imagine her having two unmarried husbands and still returning to live in the family home. It doesn't feel that sort of a family. I know Frank had connections with St Osyth (Tendring district) as my father told us they spent summers there. The Frederick who died in 1938 at Tendring was poss Emily's nephew. Any further thoughts please? |

I'll send for the certs for Amelia Hawkins to see if they are any help. Have never heard the name Dakin mentioned nor Cornwall - we're supposedly from Scotland! Frustrating isn't it! Hope it's all right if I let you know when Amelia info arrives. Many thanks for your support and help so far. |

John says he's sinle and I can't find a marriage for him. In 1871 census Ann McRae (widow of James) was living at 44 Devonshire Street, Holborn with her sons John, Daniel and Henderson. Can't find them on the 1881 census and know that Henderson only returned from India on 31st March 1881. But perhaps they knew one another? |
