I can find a Speirs/Bartlett birth in 1939, if this is your mother, are you sure she was registered as Edwards? (Also births in 1931 and 1934)

Ruth, The only thing I find strange here is why you thought that your Grandfather was named Bartlett when his daughter had the surname Edwards. Presumably he used the name Bartlett when he married but then registered his children as Edwards? Perhaps he just couldn't decide which surname he wished to use?

Hi Patricia
Sorry I got it wrong. My mothers maiden name is Bartlett. Her married name now is Edwards. I was researching for hours last night my brain had gone to mush! From my grandfathers marriage cert he was 24 when he got married in 1929. When he died in August 1942 he was 37 according to the records. This I think means he must have been born late 1904 or early 1905. I have purchased a birth cert for a Jack Bartlett in 1905 but its the wrong person.
