Could you point out Eliza and children on the 1891 census? Do you have their marriage certificate?

Each registration district writes up marriages into volumes for each quarter
eg - Bideford registration district has volume number 5b
Then each page is numbered - ie 1070
Marriages used to be written up with four marriages to each page so each of those marriages would have the same volume number and page number. Eight names would show against the same volume and page number - 5b 1070.
This was changed to two marriages per page in the volume - so there would be four names with the same volume number and page number.
So, if you had found the marriage for John Rees but didn't know that he had married Eliza, you would have had a choice - Eliza or Minnie??? Looking at subsequent census returns can sort out who the spouses were - unless of course there happened to be two Eliza's on the page!!

Any idea if Eliza re-married? Do you have her on another census so that we can check her supposed birth date/place?
Maureen
PS-Thanks for staying on and answering our questions!!!

Jacky Never thought of that. And i know that sometimes they just said they were born in the parish they were living in at the time. Lots to think about!

Hi again LiverBird
Again it looks good. the only thing is Dwerryhouse was a big name in Liverpool there were loads of them (there are even streets named after them). This is were my problems start. How can i be sure of anything! Are these people siblings or cousins!
