He seems initially to have gone to be a farm worker - from Fegans Home, 62, Horseferry Road, SW.

Perhaps we can find him on the 'Home Child's site'?

Will have to look in the morning for you if nothing more found.

Thanks-can someone clarify what a Fegans home was for?

Dea

Dea Report 16 Apr 2010 07:52

Home Children
Fegans Home: James Fegan began his work amongst destitute boys in1870,
his first home being in Deptford in South East London. In 1882 the work was transferred to Southwark.
The orphanage in Stony Stratford opened in 1900 and a training farm in Goudhurst, Kent, operated from about 1910.
James Fegan's initial work was very much one of rescue - seeking out those who had nowhere to live and no one to care for them.
Many of the boys were relocated to Canada.
