Find Ancestors

Trying to find more information about my ancestors circa 1800 and before.

Can anyone help please?

My family are all from around Yorkshire. We have some Irish decent I believe and also Scottish (Macfarlane Clan)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The oldest ancestor in my tree is my great great great) Grandad, James Bower. He was born 1819 in Harden, nr Bingley in West Yorkshire. He was a waller/stone mason. Last recorded age: 72

His son (my great, great Grandad) was Jonas Bower (warp dresser) married one Elizabeth Chippindale in 1864.

Their son (my great Grandad) Fred Albert Bower (railway plate layer) was born 1874 married one Sarah Ann Kirkpatrick - formally Pollard).

Their son (my Grandad) Albert Bower born 07/01/1901 married Lily Craven born 12/12/1907 0n 14/08/1930.

Any more information on these relatives would be greatly appreciated.

My Father Norman Miller born 12/04/1932 married Joan Bower (daughter of Albert) on 10/12/1949

His Father Norman Miller (my Grandad) married Annie Bentham from Thornton born circa 1905. This is where my information on the Millers ceases and I dearly would like to trace them back further.

To trace the Millers, you need to start by obtaining the marriage cert for Norman and Annie.

Marriages Jun 1930 (>99%)

The cert will tell you how old he said he was, plus the details he gave about his father.

Then you can start looking for the family on censuses, and bmd records.

I have no details about my Grandads demise. My Father Norman died April 15th 1976 ( a week before my 11th birthday) in a car crash in Larkhall Scotland.

We have a very tragic family background. 4 of my siblings died under 12 year old.

Albert Bower also died in a car crash in Perth Australia. I found his details on line and the cemetery where he rests.

It would appear that your father had at least three brothers - have you any knowledge of them?

I know all about my uncles. John, David, Alan,Terry, Colin, Eric who are all now passed. I have Aunts: Anne, Susan, Ruth who are alive.

Its my older Millers that I wish to trace but many thanks.

Can't you ask one of the Aunts when her father died?

It might -perhaps - save you the expense of purchasing the marriage cert.

Our family only ever seem to meet and communicate at funerals!

I have searched and found Normans/Annies marriage register but please forgive me, how do I now access the cert to find out about Normans father etc?

I am still very new to the site and struggle with some portals. :(

Can i clarify, you know all about your father's siblings and the names of his parents, but it's backwards from there you are struggling with?

Do you have any name of siblings to your Gfather Norman Miller, where was Norman born?

When your father also Norman Miller married what was his father's occupation?

Any of these could be him, I have now sent off for my grandads marriage cert so I will know more in a few days.

I know all about my fathers siblings and info about their children etc. It is backwards of Norman Miller and Annie Bentham that I am trying to research.

Also, backwards of James Bower (from my mums side).
James born around 1819 Bingley, Stone Mason Harden Brow, Bingley.
