just started looking for this person he was born around 1860 in leipzig in germany. he was the son of a lawyer and ran away from home between the ages of 12 and 14 as he didnt want to join the family solicitors. he joined the navy (we think) and ended up in south america where he travelled to the west coast of america during the gold rush years and nearing the end on the 1800's he arrived in darlington in england on a stolen passport of the surname Sandford, where he married a margaret reese born in 1882, he married her in 1900 and had 3 children between 1901 and 1906. he was imprisoned in inturnment between 1914 and 1918. and when he returned to darlington he found his wife had died of starvation aged just 29yrs,

do you have any records or information of where she was from and any other connected family etc that could be added to the tree and possibly help with info about her husband, and who looked after her children when she died?
This is the correct Margaret Sandford we are looking for.

Catherine

Catherine Report 8 Apr 2010 17:54

This is the only birth I could find on IGI:-

FRIEDRICH EDUARD SIEBEL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 04 MAY 1860
Gender: Male Christening: 13 MAY 1860 Evangelisch, Schwelm, Westfalen, Preussen
Father: WILHELM SIEBEL
Mother: CAROLINA LANGWIELER

What name did he give for his father on his marriage cert.

Catherine

Catherine Report 8 Apr 2010 17:58

1911 show she was born:- 1878 Darlington Durham

but if he lied, then did she?

Lynn

Lynn Report 8 Apr 2010 18:00

Oh thankyou so much this is excellent as it matches what we have been told,
Unfortunately we have only started the search today so dont know what occupation he put for his father on the marriage certificate.
Can you possible tell us what the fathers occupation is on the censius??

Lynn

Lynn Report 8 Apr 2010 18:03

No she didnt lie about her details she was just alot younger than he was.
We dont as of yet know why he stole the ID of Sandford when returning to england.

Catherine

Catherine Report 8 Apr 2010 18:06

The marriage cert. will give her father's name and occupation. It will also give you the address she was living at at the time of marriage. If you don't have it, then I would buy it quick before the price goes up...........or maybe it already has?

Catherine

Catherine Report 8 Apr 2010 18:15

If the IGI turns out to be correct, then this could be a sibling:-

SOPHIE LINA SIEBEL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 22 MAR 1859 Evangelisch, Schwelm, Westfalen, Preussen
Father: WILHELM SIEBEL
Mother: CAROLINE LANGWIELER

Marriage for this couple:-
WILHELM SIEBEL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 08 OCT 1858 Evangelisch, Schwelm, Westfalen, Preussen
Spouse: CAROLINE LANGWIELER

Father: PETER SIEBEL
Mother: GERTRUD VESPER

hi Lynn has asked this question for me actually (she's my aunty)
thankyou very much this has been a great help, i dont know if you could tell us if there is anymore links to these people on the IGI??
and how would we research them futher, also how would we then start searching forwards to possibly find living relatives of the sister?

once again thankyou this is appreciated :-)

Catherine

Catherine Report 8 Apr 2010 21:20

Don't know how to research in Germany, but the IGI is free to search on:-
familysearch.org

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

this link should take you directly to the page.

In Region :- you just put Germany

but don't forget you don't have any proof, as yet, that this is you family.
