Nope. My friendly priest called in today funnily enough, so I collared him! It seems as though most nuns receive a ring when professed (Brides of Christ) and they probably wouldn't be called by their surname - but he did indicate that there are many different orders etc. Cx.

Sylvia, an English (or similar) person wouldn't have a glass inscribed with Mr Fred Bloggs, so I can't imagine a Brazilian would either.

Anybody out there with a relative who is a nun?

I have found Mr A Vosper on incoming passenger list to Liverpool from Columbia in 1913. He was a 1st class pasenger with his wife and son. He was an engineer. What do you think? Could this be senor Vosper?
Also found Mr A Vosper born 1846, wife and son incoming passengers in1896 from Natal, Brazil, they were not English.

Tried ship builders but could not find any one with initial of A.

Does it look like Vosper, or Vasper do you think? Do you think it could be Sr short for Senor?

My brain isn't coming up with any good ideas. Sr is certainly the title of a nun and I can't imagine a "non-nun" putting their title on a glass. I wonder if that was the day she completed her training.

Obviously not all nuns take the traditional Catholic saint's names cos Sr Mary Ellen Lacy is on Facebook and she is definitely a nun.

She might not have been English, there are nuns all over the world.

The glass is about the size of a large sherry glass.

1891 could be a birth date or a 21st birthday. Sounds like only a well-off family would have such a thing.

Unless it was for church use, a nun wouldn't have such an item, would they?
I agree that the lettering might indicate Sister though.......

Perhaps a gift to someone commemoratng an event, ....baptism, marriage etc?

I think senior would come after the name, not before it though Julie and I think senior keeps the 'n'..........you know, George Bush Snr. Likewise, George Bush Jnr. etc. Whereas I am pretty sure that nuns are referred to as Sr Angelica whatever.
