thanks for all the census detail - they certainly got through a number of servants then didn't they...?!
The William Brown and Andrew Brown have also 'disappeared' - they were from George Brown's first marriage to Margaret Peden. Also if I remember rightly, Andrew was down as married on the census, but no sign of his wife. He was in the family Drapers business, whilst William was studying to be a docor...

marvellous stuff this Cathy...dont think I would have found all this without your help!! Can I throw another Brown into the Canadian pot...?! Robert, Mary and Georgina had another brother who I've 'lost' searching in Scotland....so just wondering if he too, crossed the pond? He is unfortunate to have the name of John Brown...no middle name that I know of! DOB 24/01/1876 in Kilmarnock, SCO. Last seen in the SCO 1901 census as an architect's assistant. No death recorded in SCO that I can find... I find this Canadian emigration very interesting as these relatives' grand parents emigrated to Oz in 1865 and was so sure that's possibly where these folks had gone... many thanks, once again...

A useful general gateway is: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html
For passenger lists - they're indexed by ship, but with the info posted above, no worries: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/001045-130-e.html
For census: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.009-e.html 1916 is just on Ancestry. 1901-1911 - use AG first and note geographic info & page #, then use the LAC links

Marvellous Cathy! Cant find a marriage in Scotland....but Ida Rose doesn't round a very Scottish name. It says here she was born in England, so could have been an English marriage...or in Canada as she emigrated two years earlier than Robert. Does the census say what relationship Helen Cretin is...could have been a domestic i suppose...

many thanks for all this Cathy - didn't know Jean had two middle names - after her father and her mother! Mary's sister Georgina also came out on this ship I think...but she was headed for Winnipeg - the others to Gleichen, Alb. Last seen on the 1916 census in Winnipeg.. Also their brother, I think went too - found a death index for a Robert Adams Brown in Vancouver in 1941 - would you know how I might verify this to make sure he's mine? many thanks...

..here's what I have on the Maclean/Brown clan in Canada so far.... Hector Fitzroy Maclean died in Victoria in 25 Sept. 1975. B. Alberta 1915. He was married to Catherine Cooper, but cant trace a marriage so far....might of course have married in Alberta. Also dont have any children for them... Parents Peter and Mary Young Maclean....(both died in Vancouver)
Jean Adams Maclean - born in Scotland in 1883 emigrated with parents, Peter and Mary Young Maclean in 1911 to Gleichen Alb. Disappeared thereafter...could have married of course.
Georgina Brown - emigrated with Peter and Mary, but last traced in 1916 census in Winnipeg as a "Roomer" - occupation Typist or Domestic? Born Scotland 15th Oct. 1908.
Robert Adams Brown - found death index in Vancouver, but not sure if he is mine. Date of death: 21 October, 1941. Born Scotland 29th June, 1880. (Geogina and Robert's parents were George Brown and Jean Anderson Adams - from Scotland.)
Hope these details are helpful..... regards, Janette
