I'd just found the 1861 census with him on on here but he was on a different page to his partents and I couldn't see them!

No i would never use the ones on here...To find the census info I use Ancestry which you have to pay for

To find her maiden name you'll need Charles Birth cert or you can go back another 10 on the census

To ansewr the question of location They are all based in or around Tipton/Great Bridge?west Bromwich in the west midlands ( although most of you figured that out!)

I see that Charles Wood's Mother was Mary-Ann. What record would be best to show me her maiden name as I have no idea of it?

I'm only starting out at this so I wasn't sure where to go when I couldn't find what I needed

Thats definatly the right Sarah As I know she died in The Burntwood Asylum in Lichfield.

I wasn't sure on the parents name as I couldn't find them on the documents I was looking at (obviously looking in the wrong places...)

I'm going to check the others against the info I've got but this all seems great!

Looking at the 1911....looks like James is lodging in Warrington Lancs with the Palmer family and Sarah is in a Lunatic Asylum, though obviously not sure this is the correct people as we are working on very basic information....
