Thank you to all the contributors regarding Derek James Gash born Jan- Mar qtr 1929.His Mother Gladys Eleanor James.Father Albert Victor Gash.
We still don't know if Derek Married and we don't know if he is alive or whether he has passed away. We have written letters to some possible addresses but all have been ignored.
Can anybody help? Did he have any children? Did he ever get married? Is he alive or dead?

We now know Derek James Gash b 1929 is son of Albert Victor Gash and Gladys Eleanor James.
He is in fact the son we thought was Bill and guessed his name was William is now Derek James Gash.
This matter is now cleared up thanks to all concerned

Your suggestion regarding death certificate(1982 Mar Vol 12 page 0100) of Gladys Eleanor Gash( nee James) has given us a new lead. Everything on the certificate checks except the son's first name who as the informant gives his name as Derek James Gash. This is a surprise as he was always known to our end of the family as Bill or to his sister Pam as Billy Boy.
Our assumption that his birth name was William seems to be wrong. We are now looking for Derek James Gash as son of Gladys Eleanor Gash (nee James). Your ref to William E T James birth cert( 1924 Dec Vol 11a page 1716) proved to be wrong as Mother is Martha Jamesand Father David James.Tanks for your help

Good question. William's birth place was a not very inspired guess on my part. I only ever met him when he lived with his parents in Ealing in 1957.
Assuming William was older than sister Pamela, and his age was only a guess by me ,it is quite likely he was born in the Glamorgan area.
I will get a copy of William E T Birth Cert to see if we have the correct William.

Wrong Birth Cert. We now know its Derek James Gash we are seeking

Have sent address from old phone books for an A.V GASH in Ealing area.
They were at the same address for at least 1946 to 1963 listings.

No idea if it is the correct family.

Victor I have searched freebmd, ancestry and findmypast for a birth for William Gash with mothers maiden name from 1920 to 1935 and there is none coming up.

Why do you think he was born in London? His father was from Swansea and his parents married in Cardiff. His half brother Peter William was born in Cheltenham and Pamela was born Hendon.

Why do you think he was born 1928/1929?

I also suspect is mother was from Glamorgan too.

the lead on William ( mother Gladys James) will be followed up as soon as possible.
I have a lead from Julie that suggests a William Gash born c1929 West London could be a lead but could be my own feedback from a guess I made a year ago Feb 2010
