Thanks Helen! It does look like them doesn't it? Have come across this just once before, with the whole family completely changing their surname.
I just assumed they were on the run - maybe hadn't paid the rent!!

This happened with the family I mentioned earlier - they used their real names for marriages but obviously told the enumerator a different name when he came calling!

I think it must be them- I can't see a Pearson family that matches for the 1901 census. Well done Jan :)

Do George Fountain in 1901 and George Pearson in 1911 have the same occupation?

Why thank you kindly! Thank goodness for distinctive 1st names and for Mabel! Never have found them otherwise.
And no, he's a navvy/miner for sewarage works in 1901!

Still think it's correct- it's not like a doctor suddenly becoming a labourer!

Would love to know if they were hiding from something- or where the name Pearson came from?!

Did notice a couple of Pearsons 2 doors down in 1901 - I wonder if they might be relatives?

EDIT There are lots of Pearsons up and down that street!
