Find Ancestors

Hello, I'm trying to research my great -great -grandfather, George Hallford.

I believe he married Ann Lydia Williams around 1904 however I have not been able to find a marriage record for them.

They had 4 children as far as I am aware:
Margaret Hallford (c1905)
Violet May Hallford (1908) .......[My great grandmother]
Rose Hallford (c1911)
George Hallford (c1922)

Any information would be greatly appreciated :)

Mmm it's very confusing... I suppose there's the possibility that they weren't actually married... Although it would maybe have been less likely back then.

I haven't been able to find the birth records of any of the other children either unfortunately... so i've just been relying on info from the family for dates and things!

And Violet married Albert Jones....

are you sure they only had 4 children?

These were all born after 1911, mother's maiden name Williams, same registration area as Violet

You need to get a look at the 1911 Census ...... this will tell you which children are theirs, how long they say they have been married, and where and when George and Ann were born

Um no I'm not sure if they only had 4 children... And George F is definately their son, but I will try and find out if there were more children... I don't think there would have been many more later than George as my grandmother (violet's daughter) would probably know more about them.

Well, here is your grandmother on the 1911 Census ..... I used the free search, but have no credits to actually look at either ther transcript of the census image

It looks as though your great grandfather might have been Henry George Hallford, not plain George

Yep he could very well have been Henry George.. Perhaps just known as 'George'

I found a Public Family Tree on ancestry that had a Henry George Hallford of the right age who was an Owner Boatman on one of the Middlesex canals .................. a lot of detail and an obviously very carefully researched tree, but unfortunately no wife or children shown, so it may not be yours.

On the original his occupation looks more like" Boat man by trade"

Im afraid his writing is not the best.

also its stated they had 9 children 6 alive but 4 died,

But that George and Ann(ie) are a bit old to have a son born in 1922, aren't they?

Also there is no Margaret

Rose may have been born after the census was taken.

I agree that this family seems to be very confusing!

Violet May has definately got to be my great grandmother but from the transcription the parents would be much older than I originally thought...
If this was the 1911 census, then perhaps Rose was born that year but after the census was taken...

And as for George Junior, that's very confusing :S Unless he was adopted, or was infact a cousin/grandchild...?

I will try and talk to some relatives to find out when Geoge and Ann/Annie would have been born and whether it could have been earlier than we originally thought.

Perhaps finding out a death date would help clarify this.


Also, in reference to the occupation, I know that the family were boat/ canal workers so this would link...

Finding out a death date for Violet would be first on the list. I tried to look,but JONES??? Also death dates for any other family-George,Marg.,etc.
