Marriage. some trees have Phoebe marrying George Halliday c1808, some have her marrying Thomas Hedleyc1803 giving rise to completely different families. Someone is wrong. Can you all put your evidence here so we can sort out who's got the right ancesters. All trees agree that Phoebe's Mum was Phoebe Trotter c 1786 and Dad was Thomas Hodgson c1785.

You should be working backwards - then you'd know who she married, as you'd get to her through her children - and their children etc..................

Glynis Report 5 Feb 2010 18:42

Thanks
I have sent messages. Some people have 1941 census as evidence, awaiting more. Also I have worked backwards and find two entirely different families claiming to be descendent from this Phoebe. so still confused.

Sorry, Glynis, but if you work backwards, you MUST know the surname of whichever of her children you are descended from.............

Hello everyone on this thread.
I answered everyone individually last night. Genes have informed me that they have delayed sending my answers to you all. I noticed that there are attachments on these mails which I did not attach. If you get my emails please do not open the attachments as I dont know what they are . I have notified the genes support team.
thankyou all, regards Glynis

Curious! I've never heard of an attachment on a GR message.
I think it's always best to thank people on the thread rather than sending a pm.

Does anyone know how to get a birth certificate for dates as early as 1836 or is this not possible?
Thanks
Glynis

MargaretM Report 8 Feb 2010 16:56

Certificates started in 1837.

There's only 1 possible marr for George Halliday at:
http://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/newsearch.php

but this is to Hannah Halliday 1/12/1830 DUR BTs Gateshead (image 436 of 598) - the IGI says 1/11/1830, so maybe I got the date wrong

FreeReg has no suitable marr, and the IGI generally has a gap 1813-1837 for many Durham parishes.

Thankyou
I have info from other trees that George c1808 married a Hannah Holliday c1807 but she died in 1835., Then George was supposed to have married Phoebe Ann Hodgson. I have this info from other trees but no one who has George and Phoebe married has produced evidence for this yet.

There is evidence for the Phoebe Hodgson and Thomas Hedley marriage though.

Looking at the above it seems I am stuck again, but thankyou all very much for your time and care.
regards glynis

Glynis Report 9 Feb 2010 15:49

Thankyou Everyone
I have further info that George may have married yet another person- Ann Featherstone and to confound this there are 2 Ann Featherstones! the source is another Genes Tree but with no record of marriage as yet.

Below is a list of evidence so far for all the possible marriages:

Case for George marrying Phoebe Ann Hodgson:

Bapt. chester-le-street Nicholas Wardropper son of George and Phobe Ann Halliday
1841 census. George and Ann Halliday "fostering" a child Ann Hodgson.
1851 census Head George wife Ann chester le street
1861 census Head George Halliday wife Ann but I CANNOT READ HER BIRTH PLACE
Int .Gen. Index Births of Susanna Louisa Holliday 1842 and Elizabieth Ann Halliday 1848 Father George, mother Phobe.

Case for George marrying Ann Featherstone:

1841 census George and Ann Halliday Chester le street with child Featherstone Halliday.
Featherstone is often used in my family as First name.
Ann Featherstone Bapt 1805 Chapel Weardale Stanhope.
Ann Featherstone 1811 Stanhope
However Nicholas Wadropper was baptised as son of George and Phobe Ann .

Case for George marrying Hannah Holliday

Durham Records Marriage to Hannah Holliday 1830 1/12/1830
IGI records marriage to Hannah 1/11/1830

Case for Phoebe Hodgson marrying Thomas Hedley:

Weardale Registers Thomas Hedley marriage to Phoebe Hodgson St Johns Chapel 5/7/1829

1841 census Head Thomas Hedley Wife Phobe at Stanhope

Fam search has Thomas Hedley father and Phoebe Hedley mother for the birth of Phoebe Elizabeth Hedley 23/5/1878 and Jane Ann Halliday 5/7/1863.
But sums don't add up as Phoebe c1807 would have been 71 when she gave birth to Phoebe Elizabeth

This is all the evidence sent to me so far for each case.
Any thoughts please
Thankyou

Having read through this thread, my conclusion would be that you should really take no notice of any other trees, and concentrate on finding the facts yourself.

Other trees may not be properly researched; whereas if you do the checking yourself, you can be sure that what you find is as accurate as you can make it

My advice (for what it's worth) would be to concentrate solely on following the paper trail for your proven relation - not get side-tracked by other issues until such time as you have verified your relation's parentage.

Glynis Report 19 Feb 2010 18:49

I NOW HAVE THE BIRTH CERTS OF 2 SIBLINGS OF NICHOLAS WARDROPPER HALLIDAY AND THE ANSWER IS

PHOEBE ANN HODGSON AND GEORGE HALLIDAY WERE THE PARENTS.

HOW MANY PHOEBE HODGSONS ARE THERE?
HOW MANY PHOEBE ANN HODGSONS ARE THERE?

WHO WERE THE PARENTS????

THANKYOU AGAIN
