You've posted a few census searches for me.
Please can I ask if you have the places of birth and relationship to the house hold on them.
Many thanks Tracy

My family have died over 30 years ago and I don't think my mother ever knew her elder sister was a child of an earlier marriage and they weren't full sisters.
Her mother remarried two weeks before her elder sister was born. Her first husband died on leave from the Army the week that this elder sister was conceived. It's amazing the detials you can find on the net that were never known before
Good Luck Kay

The funny thing is that I seem to be telling my dad things about his family (real dad, mum, etc) that he never knew.
Im sure it should be the other way round!!!

She was Illegitimate but knew her father until age 5 when he died and she has his first and second name down on her marriage ,plus occupation, but,,,,,has put his surname the same as hers which she knew it wasnt !

Thank You FannyByGaslight at least I know that it wasn't unsual to have someone registering the birth, other than the mother and father.
I got a reply from Helen (who also has Senath in her tree). She hasnt got any more of Senath decendants but is helping with Senaths mums family etc.
I really wished I'd been intrestered in this all before my nanny died, so I could have asked her all the details of her family.
Mind you she wouldn't tell my dad things about her family so I doubt she would have told me.
Oh well I will never know.

I have 2 birth certs ,one for my sons Grandfather and one for his grandfathers brother,5 years later, both with no father on, but both registered by people other than their mother, one woman and one man. They signed a "declaration"it says on the certs.

K, I think you could be on the right track.
Shes named Francis J Cooper as her father on one of them (that is Senaths dads name - is this a coincidence or is that who she put as her father although he was her mothers father and subsiquently her grand father)?
However, still confused why Frank Culshaw registered her!!! Maybe her mum couldnt.

If Senath died when Florence was only 10 her brother Frank may have brought up Florence and been named as her father on her marriage cert
Name: Senath Cooper Death Registration Month/Year: 1931 Age at death (estimated): 32 Registration district: Sculcoates Inferred County: Yorkshire East Riding Volume: 9d Page: 198

Could the father mentioned on her marriage cert have been her uncle Frank who stood in as her father?
I don't know if the same registration rules applied in 1920 but you would think Frank Culshaw would be listed as the father if he registered her and was actually the father

Yes I do mean for Senaths Child:
Florence Cooper born june 1920.
So does that mean if frank Culshaw registered her birth he IS the father?
My nannys part of the tree has me so confused. We dont even know my dads real dads name (thats another story lol)
thanks again Tracy

Tracy I think is refering to Senath's child's birth.
The details below list who can register a birth, but this is present day rules
If the parents were married to each other at the time of the birth either the mother or the father can register the baby. However, if the parents were not married to each other at the time of the birth the father's details can only be entered in the register in the following circumstances:
* where the mother and the father attend together before the registrar to register the birth * or where the father is unable to attend with the mother it is possible for him to make a statutory declaration, confirming that he is the father, which the mother should produce to the registrar (copies of this form can be obtained from any registrar in England and Wales) * or where the mother in unable to attend the office with the father, it is possible for her to make a statutory declaration, confirming the name of the father, which the father should produce to the registrar * or where either parent has obtained a relevant court order this should be produced to the registrar who will advise you further.
However, if the parents are not married to each other the father cannot register the birth unless the mother attends the office with him and they both sign the register or she makes a legal declaration naming him as the father.
The mother can register the birth on her own but the father's details will not be recorded in the register. There are circumstances in which other people may be legally qualified to register the birth. However, these are unusual and you should contact the Register Office for advice.
Please remember one of the parents must register the birth in person. They cannot ask a friend or relative to register the birth on their behalf.

Tracy, FannyByGaslight has found the birth registered March 1899 which suggests she was born either end of 1898 or early 99. Liverbird1 has found parents marriage as June 1897. Assuming that both of these are the correct records then her parents had been married for more then 9 months when Senath was born so no reason to suspect that he not the father. Do you actually have the birth certificate? If so, what does it say under description and residence of informant? I've been trying to find a Frank Culshaw in that area at the right time but without success

As you have all been very helpfull I have another question.
My nanny has Senath only on her birth certificate and no father.
However there is a Frank Culshaw who was the informant. His adress is the same as where my nanny was born?! Back then - do you know - who could register a babys birth?
On my nannys two marriage certificates that I have there is a father named.
1st marriage is in 1942 it states father: Frank Cooper - Able Seaman Royal Navy.
2nd marriage is in 1950 it states father: Francis James Cooper (deceased) - Captain Royal Navy.
Any ideas lol?
Thanks again Tracy
