Hey Frank,
Sorry It's taken so long to reply. I decided to take a break for a couple of months and hey presto......before I knew it, a few years disappeared :-D

I certainly was at the party in Torleys to meet uncle Joe with all the family (and I have the pic to prove it lol )

I'm sitting here giggling cos somewhere in the back of my mind I can picture the whole dancing with a towel as a skirt thing....... Don't know if I'm conjuring up the picture in my mind or if it's an actual memory lol
Liz :-)

Only by marriage Viv, only by marriage :))

My lot speak even more strangely than the Fifers as I was born in the South of France and if my mother hadn't suffered terribly from homesickness, I would still be there.

C'est la vie, n'est-ce pas!

Hi Elizabeth,

Anne is asking if you were at the party in Torley's in Lochgelly, early 70's for Uncle Joe (Joseph Redek) from South Africa when he came home to visit.
She says all the family were there.
Anne's dad's party piece was rolling his trousers up past his knees and wearing a towel as a skirt while dancing with his aunt Maggie (Redek / Ganley)
I'll send you that photo as well as Jeanie's certificate.

See Viv, I told you they were strange ! :)))

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks very much and just keep all those glowing tributes coming!!

Don't you listen to that Viv, she's been talking to our Cynthia and Sylvia again about my sporrans who are not bigheaded in any way.....in fact they are very friendly and close pals of our wee haggis who with their two long legs and two short legs really bamboozle all of these foreigners.

Jist talk Fife Liz an naebody 'll ken whit yer oan aboot!! :))

I'm from Glasgow and it took me a while to understand my father in law and brother in law.

I must admit that I can't take all the credit as Anne's mother was able to flesh out the skeletons that I found.
It was still awkward as Anne's grandmother was never very forthcoming about any of her family (the Redeks) but Scotlands People just makes all the searching so much easier. Yes it can be costly but it certainly provides the results.

By the way, I also have Grace's (Jeanie's) death certificate which I will send you when I find it.
I ordered it to find out if Jeanie was Grace since I had a birth for Grace and a death for Jeanie............see those Redek / Malones !!

Best of luck with the family.

P.S. You are Anne's 2nd cousin (blood relative)

Hi Elizabeth,

Your gran (Grace Redek) was my wife's gran's sister (Maré Reddek) note the spelling of Mary often known as Molly Malone!..........do you think they were all trying to avoid the rent man!

"Occhh Mary and Grace ur oot the noo an Jean's up the toon bit ah dinna ken if Molly's aboot??"
..................and yes the spelling of Redek was all over the place.

My wife's dad Alex Wilson was your mum's cousin and you probably played with Anne at "auntie Jean's" when you were kids.

I'll just get all this stuff together for you...................hope you are not in a rush!

Hi Frank,

1 1923 GANLEY BARTHOLOMEW REDDEK MARGARET LOCHGELLY /FIFE 405/02 0007

They are definitely related to me. They would be my mothers aunt and uncle(Grans sister). The other one, Grace Reddick Ganley would be their daughter. My Grans name was Grace (known as Jean), married to Peter McAndrew. My mothers name was Betty.
I think some of my Grans family lived in Thornton (My mums auntie Mary) not 100% what relation she was to gran, may have been sister-in law, but I do know my mum called her aunt. I hope this helps.
Can't wait to see if and how this all fits together. Would be grateful if you know any more information about the Reddick/ Malone name and what name they derive from.

Regards

Cheers Viv, I never thought of looking there.

I'm really trying to figure out the Malones, Reddeks, Reddicks, Redeks and Ganleys so just waiting to see if Biff's gran fits in anywhere..

The story goes that they came from Lithuania and Belarus (White Russia) on a ship headed for USA but were unloaded at Dundee !?
There were quite a lot of them with many going to work in the coalfields as miners in the Central belt, then on to Lochgelly, Balingry etc.

Does this ring any bells Biff.

Do you have gran's maiden name, DOB?

Hi Biff,

Ticks all the right boxes so far.

My wife's a Fifer and her gran was "Molly" Malone married Thomas Wilson of Thornton.

Is this your gran or is she too young........

3 1938 GANLEY GRACE REDDICK F LOCHORE /FIFE 408/00 0068

and what's your name?

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 30 Jan 2010 17:38

Hi Frank,
Not sure, it would depend on whether he was of Lithuanian decent, and had taken this name as his UK name. I know my relations took on Malone (from the name of the farm they lived on when they first got here). Other family members took on Reddek, Reddick, Redek (various spellings of the name) which was a shortened version of their own original surname.
I believe there was a Peter, but this is about the extent of my knowledge.

Biff

Then you need to join Scotlandspeople and search for her birth I would think as 1911 scotland wont be available until 1912.
You can search for and get her marriage as well ,which would give you her parents names if she married in Scotland,or just her fathers if in England or Wales.

It is pay per view only though.
£6 for 30 credits.
