After talking to someone at the GRO it looks like my father did not have a middle name of John. That was entered in error so it is just Edward Burdett and yes it looks like Freewheeler was right in that he is dead but now got to try and sort out how to find any of his relatives that may be alive.

Thanks for all that info, I am working at the moment so will have to look at it all tonight.
I will try and order a birth cert for him. Really gutted, hoped for a minute that my father was not dead......oh well.

Yes that is the marriage certificate I have.
It has got John as a middle name but it has a line through it and number 12 next to it then on the far right the word Twelve and letters L.O.O so dont know if the John was crossed out because it should not be there.
Do you know anything of this man or his family

If he was married in 1957 and he was 19 then he must have been born c1938.
