Joe'y isn't a name, Joey is a nickname for Joseph, and Joe may be a name but is usually a nickname for Joseph.

From 1916 onward there is one Joseph Isley marriage, 1917 in Yorkshire. And there is one Joseph Isley death, 1946 (aged 61) in Yorkshire. No Joseph Isley birth.

Obviously, John, you know a little more than this. When was "Joe'y Isley" born, who was his mother, etc.?

Is the question that there was no father declared on his birth certificate? or marriage certificate? If that's the case, you may have hit the wall that many of us hit, although we hope to hit it farther back than the 20th century.

There doesn't seem to be a birth of a Joseph Isley whose father would now be about 90, i.e. born c1920.

Well, a tree search turns up a Joe'y Isley in your tree ... born 1920 ............................. IN INDONESIA.

So, how many of us wasted how much of our time because you neglected to mention that little fact??

Fascinating.

Well, I guess if you do want help, you'll answer some of the questions and provide the information you do have!

Oh. You edited your opening post.

The surname Heysley does not seem to exist in England/Wales.

There's Hisley ... although rare ...

Just terminally curious, me ...

"last known address folkstone kent ingoldsby road"

In 1920? 1950? 1999?

Did he marry? Have children?

There's a reason you're looking for him, one assumes. So you know *something* about him that you aren't stating ...

John Report 26 Jan 2010 21:44

all i know is this man is my grandfather he never married my grandmother.

i know neither gf or gm.

gm was forced to go to a mother and baby home by her parents, to give birth and was not allowed home till baby was adopted.

joe,joe'y,joseph-isley/heysley should be about 90 if still alive so im told, last known place he lived was ingoldsby road folestone kent england.

i have no date of birth. any other info you think would help ask i dont know much i keep being thrown red herrings, but i will add any new info to this thread if i find anything else out..

Well if he was in Folkestone, he's not there now. At least he's not in the phone book as I've just looked.

Under Isley, Hisley, Haysley, Heysley etc. No sign of him.

It's a tough one. Obviously you don't want to put your father's name here.

If he is still living, he is entitled to certain information from his adoption files, I believe.

Someone here recently moved heaven and earth to get his own files from social services in Scotland, after his mother gave him up as a young child. After all his years of wondering and searching, he was finally given a copy of his mother's application for social assistance -- on which she had stated his father's name.

If your dad does want to find out what is in his records, he could start the process through the social services office in the place where he was adopted, I think. It is possible that his mother did record something about his father during the process.

Do you have your dad's birth certificate?

Does it mention Joe's name?

Are you going by the way your mum/a member of your family pronounced his surname?

If your dad was born in Kent then Social Services may well have archived his records. There are archived records going back years ... Definitely worth following up.

The only remotely possibly connected person I see in the indexes goes like this.

a marriage

Name: Joseph Isley
Spouse Surname: Kay
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1917
Registration district: Wharfedale
Registration county (inferred): Yorkshire - West Riding
Volume Number: 9a

a birth

Name: Harold J Isley
Mother's Maiden Surname: Kay
Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1920
Registration district: Leeds
Registration county: Yorkshire
Volume Number: 9b
Page Number: 736

2 marriages for that name in Leeds, 1942 and 1948; 2 births to the second marriage.

a death

Name: Harold Joseph Isley
Birth Date: 14 Apr 1920
Death Registration Month/Year: 1974
Registration district: Leeds
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding, West Yorkshire
Volume: 5
Page: 0303
Page Number: 287

That person's middle name and father's name were Joseph. He is on two trees here at GR.

"the reason i seek him is to find his father and his fathers father and his fathers fathers father."

John, I would have thought it clear that what I was referring to was the reason why you want to find his father and his father's father, etc. ...

We don't pick random names out of hats and go looking for their ancestors.

It helps, it can be essential, to know *why* someone is investigating a particular individual, because it helps to know what other information to ask for.

I guess we're all not much use here.

If you do a street search on friends reunited, there several people listed in Ingoldsby Road - perhaps they could give you some information
