Another elusive family member! Would someone please have a look for me? I have her on all other censuses but 1851.

Kesiah (or Keziah, Kezia etc!) eventually set up home with an Edward Collier, but I have found him without her in 1851, so I am assuming (!) she is s still Kesiah Harris.

I have the other family members after this.

Here she is 1841:

1841 England Census

Name: Kesiah Harris
Age: 10
Estimated birth year: abt 1831
Gender: Female

Thanks Nicky.

This is hard to say, the main problem with it is the birthplace - have just checked and Moreton is some 50 miles from Tardebigge! If she is a servant mistakes are likely though, so will keep it in my sights.

Thanks for looking for me.

Thanks Dee.
I don't think this is her. This place is some 35 miles from Tardebigge. Also, she eventually married Edward Collier under her maiden name of Kesiah Harris.
Thanks for looking though! I think she has done a hiding job! Ho hum.

Hi Ruth.
This looks like the one Nicky found, though her birthplace different - my brain is spinning now. Back to good old googlemap, distance now down to 28 miles! Feels like an auction is going on.
Thank you very much, will keep this in mind also.

Hi Jan,

The address on the census is shown as Wadborogh and a quick google search has shown Norton as 2 miles away (as the crow flies)!

On the full census that Nicky shows, it looks as though her younger sister Esther was working with her.

Hope your head is ok :-)

The distances are beginning to addle my brain! I am looking at distances from Tardebigge, what is everyone else looking at! Seriously, I have no evidence of a sister Esther, so I am back to square one - I think!
I appreciate everyone's help, put me right please if my geography has gone astray!
Many thanks.

Jan,
Do you have the rest of her family in 1851?

When did she marry Edward Collier? and does she always give Tardbigge as her place of birth on the other census`s ,? or a more general area?

Nicky.

Me again. Keziah never puts just Worcs, always places around the same area. She seemed to favour Fox Lydiate in later years!
Jan

Nickydownsouth Report 13 Jan 2010 13:59

Did she not marry Edward Collier then...I can`t see a marriage.

She puts Foxlydiate as place of birth in 1881 as well, its 2.5 miles from Tardbigge, so she does seem to be consistent there.

Do you have the rest of her family in 1851 or are they all missing?

So they were together at least 16 years before getting married, they don`t seem to have any children with them at all, did they not have any?

Nicky

brummiejan Report 13 Jan 2010 14:09

I have no idea why they married so late - yes, it is them. I don't think they had any children, at least not as far as I can see. I have them in later censuses, with other family members, so there is no doubt of my info.
The only thing I haven't done is pursue her as Kesiah Collier in 1851, mainly because Edward is single and living with his parents.
Should I give up do you think?
Maybe she was in prison - that side of my family always was a bit dodgy ...

I`m ahead of you Jan...already searched for Keziah Collier 1851 and found nothing...

Theres a baptism on IGI {submitted} for Keziah born Tardbigge parents David and Leah......

Then another one around the same time for Keziah Harris in Abbotts Moreton, wonder if thats the one I found for you initially on the 1851 census working as a servant.

Which if it is ,means you can maybe discount the one i found you.

Nicky

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 13 Jan 2010 14:19

Thank you for looking Nicky. Yes, that baptism is the one - her father married twice, Leah was his 1st wife. Reassuring to be able to discount the other Kesiah, thanks for that.
I don't think she wanted to be found do you?

Nickydownsouth Report 13 Jan 2010 14:31

There a lot of 1851 census records for the North west/ Manchester area that are missing in 1851, ruined or destroyed by fire, can`t remember which.

My gr grandfather married in Liverpool in 1848, I can then find no trace of him till 1861, so if Keziah was in service up that way the records may have been destroyed.....she obviously wasn`t adverse to travelling as she was in Kent for a while ,then back up in the midlands, so it is a posssibility.
