I am looking for a John Henry Raspberry born about 1840.
Don't know where.

His son was also John Henry Raspery born 1861 Salford Lancashire He married Rosella Sawyer Farrow in 1885 ,i have the marriage cert

.His son was also John Henry Raspery born 1886 in London he married Alice Norman in 1907 i also have that marriage cert.

As you can see the spelling of the surname changes but i can't find the John Henry from 1840ish in any census.

Maybe a new pair of eyes might help
.Thank you
Pam

Have you looked for one born 1861 on the census returns?

Have you checked deaths to ascertain whether the 'father' actually existed?

JaneyCanuck Report 11 Jan 2010 21:49

Can you say how you know JHR Sr was born 1840ish if you don't have him in a census? Do you have his marriage certificate? Any chance of his wife's name? Any other kids?

It all goes into the mix for searching!

I particularly hate the assumption that a father was 20ish years older than a child. The child could have been the last of 12!

sorry if i'm a bit slow in answering my comp playing up.
No have'nt found a birth.

It's frustrating you know Pam --

"His son was also John Henry Raspery born 1861 Salford Lancashire"

But he wasn't. Viv has provided the birth record. He was born 1860. This is what FreeBMD is for. And he was born Raspberry, not Raspery.

Pam..
Its very unlikely that "your"John Henry 1861 was born in Salford,it would seem that he was more likely born in Norfolk.

But saying that, there does not seem to be a birth in Norfolk for him...

Pam

You haven't answered the question I asked ages ago about the occupation of the 'father' of the one born c1861

Nor have you said whether you have found a death for him....................

bighen

bighen Report 12 Jan 2010 11:56

sorry i did'nt get back to you comp went down.
JHR 1860-61 occupation was Shoemaker.
JHR 1886 was a Printer .
I know what you are saying about him being born in Salford but like you say i could'nt find one born in Norfolk.
I did find a couple of deaths
JHR age 83 died 1943 which makes dob 1860 so very poss
JHRaspery age 80 in 1965 dob 1885-86
I might have to send for JHR 1886 birth certificate what do you think

We KNOW the occupations of the ones we have located for you - that info is on the census records!

I asked about the occupation of the FATHER of the one born c1861 - you say you have the marriage cert - the info will be on there.

And you STILL haven't said if you've looked for/found a death for him.

We can't help you unless you read carefully - and answer - the questions that we pose....................
