I've been looking at the addresses on google map Wolverhampton is quite big now and I knew of a Bilston Road but not of a Bilstons Street. Then when I looked at the map I realised that all the houses had been knocked down and what is in their place? Bilston Street Police Station (w'ton central station). How could I not remember they were there! So no old houses to look at.

What is also disappointing, most of the ancestors had been baptised, married and buried at St Georges Church, W'ton. Churchgrounds ie gravestones no longer there. Site has been redeveloped and the church turned into ........Sainsbury's! Now I know they have had sightings of ghosts in the church part of the supermarket - could be my ancestors! lol.

Thanks to all the help you have given me, I have found 2 descendants of Penelope Thompson (Zachariah's sister) on GR and we are exchanging information. Always nice to make contact with other people connected to your tree, particularly when they are as interested in family research as you are. (my lot are not interested!).

have to get back to work now.
Thank you again.
and best wishes
Dee

Families did like to live close to each other back then. Lucky you being still in the area to look into the archives.

I have just found a baptism for a Jane Thompson daughter of Zacariah (Edge Tool maker) and Louisa Thompson of Little moore Street, Wolverhampton on 11/7/1865.

Now, can one assume that Jane is Sarah Jane?

and strangely, Sarah Jane's daughter Elsie Betsy (my grandmother) lived at 12 Little moore Street between 1911 and 1916, and may have before that.

too much of a coincidence.

I think I need to pay a trip into W'ton Archives and look up some rent books etc to see if I can find anything.

If you are able to check baptisms then do that first

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 6 Jan 2010 21:46

now I am even more confused.

Should I get the birth of Sarah Whittaker then? assuming she was brought up as a Thompson??? Perhaps I should leave it and go into W'ton records offices to find any baptisms?

that birht record I found was on www.familysearch.org ...... the Mormon site BUT it is a submitted record, therefore no backing documentation and nto to be trusted.

We couldn't find a suitable marraige, but Rose did find a Louisa WHITTAKER marrying Zacharias, and a Sarh Whittake born before the marriage. Hence her 2 postings of earlier today:-

Can you tell me where to find the information you had of Sarah Thompson birth in 1864 Wolverhampton. You have her father Zacharias and Mother Louisa. I've been trying to find her birth record so that I can order a certificated, but there are several possiblilities.

Sarah Thompson B June 14 1864 W'ton 6b 514
Sarah Thompson B Dec 1/4 1864 W'ton 6b 503 or
Sarah Jane Thompson B June 1/4 1868 Aston, Warwickshire 6d 299

Given that they were living in Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1871
I have found a birth record for a Henry Wallace Thompson Sept 1/4 1869 Birmingham 9d 169 and
I have found a birth record for a Betsy Thompson Mar 1/4 1874 Aston 6d 345

I thought the last would be the one but the census gives her age as 7.

Zacharias ' family were from Aston and I think I may have found his parents (John & Elizabeth's marriage in Dec 1/4 1840 in Birmingham V16 397. Elizabeth's surname given as Burgess.

I really don't know which certificate to order?

Can you give me some advice on which one to choose?

Thank you again
Dee

You need to google English naming patterns because it explains why our families used the same name

added:

It is interesting to find the names passed down. It looks like my grandmother got her middle name (Betsy) from this side of the family too.

I can't believe you have found so much for me! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

hmmmm

i cannot find a marriage for a Zacharias/h Thompson to a Lousia/Louisa ....... only to an Elizabeth in 1862, in Nottinghamshire.

There was both a Zacharias and a Zachariah Thompson born at about the same time, one in Nottinghamshire and one in Staffordshire. Presumably the one born in Nottinghamshire is the one who married Elizabeth.

This is probably your Zacharias
