Hi Elizabeth.

I prefer personaly not to be contacted by clicking on my name.
Best to add your request to either the Records office board, or this board.

My reasoning is, because i can do as many as 10 to 15 lookups per day on GR and other F.H boards ( at my own leisure ).......and its gets confusing if you are contacted by PM ( personal mail ) by to many people.........also, you stand to lose important information from someone else that may be able to offer better assistants than myself.

Many of us that check these boards do so every day, and many every few hrs. in some cases.,

If you add your request here on this board it will be found.... for certain

Cheers.Tony

Thanks, Tony.
Will look up your article on the tips board. I have only been researching a number of months and have just completed a course at WEA on researching family history but have not had time to visit appropriate places to get info yet.
Wish I'd started years ago- several family members were very knowledgeable in this area but they've now passed on.
Thanks for being willing to help me again- you may well hear from me again- I guess next time it would be better to click on your name as you may not see my note in the Trying to Find section as i guess you don't check it every day ( I was blessed to have someone who could really help me checking yesterday!)
Regards,
Elizabeth

Yes....not cheap in most cases. Its amazing i'm not in the divorce courts.....:>))

If its any help......On the tips board there is thread "AUSTRALIAN RESEACH TIPS" that i added a while back. It may be of some help, if you are new to this hobby?

http://www.genesreunited.co.za/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1164799

If i can assist further, then please feel free to ask.
There are many Aussies and U.K people among others, on GR who check the "Trying to find " board regulary giving people help.

Good luck with your research.

Elizabeth. Your welcome...:>))

No need to repay the favour, but thanks for offering.
40 years i have been researching my own lot who arrived here in Australia, and these cd's have been purchased over these years.

You better sit down, before you check the cost of purchasing them....lol
For example: 1 cd.only..... covering victoria BDM
eg; Federation 1889 to 1901 ( 12years only ) = approx $260 - $360:00 au each cd.

6 cd's cover Victoria:
Vic.Pioneers BDM 1840-1888
Vic.Federation BDM 1889 -1901
Vic.Edwardian BDM 1902 - 1913
Vic.Great War.BDM 1914 - 1920
Vic.Marriages 1921 - 1942
Vic. Deaths 1921 - 1985

South Australian Births Register 1842-1906
South Australian Births Register 1907 - 1926
South Australian Death Register 1842 - 1915
South Australian Marriages 1842 - 1916
South Australian Marriages 1917-1937

So i will let you work that out in $$$.....:>))

Thankyou, Tony, ever so much. I wish I could repay the favour.
Can you buy the BDM CDs from those state depts.? They would be worth having. How much do they cost? Thankfully I would only need to buy Vic and SA as I am not aware of any relatives emigrating to other states.
Thanks again,
Kind regards,

Hi Elizabeth.

Cant see a birth registered in Victoria under Edith RITSON
So played around with the surname, and found her birth under RILSON

RILSON, Edith CB 1747898 Birth
Father: William Walton
Mother: Harbottle Margare
Event Place: Ball
Reg Year: 1863
Reg State: Victoria
Ref Number: 6045

RITSON, Josephine Ann CB 1750436 Birth
Father: William
Mother: Harbottle Margaret
Event Place: Ball
Reg Year: 1861
Reg State: Victoria
Ref Number: 20265

RITSON, Florence CB 1750425 Birth
Father: William Walton
Mother: Harbottle Margaret
Event Place: Ball
Reg Year: 1865
Reg State: Victoria
Ref Number: 13195

RITSON, James Walton CB 1750429 Birth
Father: William Walton
Mother: Harbottle Margaret Jane
Event Place: Ballt
Reg Year: 1867
Reg State: Victoria
Ref Number: 342

*************************************************
This appears to be a death for Charles RITSON Ballarat... aged 1 year. ( Victoria )

RITSON, Charles CD 755799 Death
Father: William
Mother: U Margaret
Age at Death: 1
Birthplace: Ball
Reg Year: 1858
Reg State: Victoria
Ref Number: 6208

John Harbottle RITSON also died as a 7 year old in Ballarat

RITSON, John Harbottle CD 755810 Death
Father: William Walt
Mother: Harbottle Margaret J
Age at Death: 7
Birthplace: Ball
Reg Year: 1878
Reg State: Victoria
Ref Number: 1183

******************************************
Found these on incoming passengers to Victoria 1852 -1865 Un-assisted passage
B = embarked from British Port
William H aged 2...is most likely William Harbottle travelling with his mother.

RITSON MARGT JANE age:23 arr: JAN 1856 Ship: OCEAN CHIEF B
RITSON WILLIAM H age: 2 arr: JAN 1856 Ship: OCEAN CHIEF B

Cant see William Walton RITSON travelling with them, but he may have already arrived before them?

From my own experiance....many male members came earlier than their spouse and family, as to set up accomodation/housing/work, and when settled, sent for their family to follow.

Thanks, Tony. Can I bother you again? I hope you don't mind. Could you find out the birth dates of Edith, Florence and Josephine Anne? Also the death dates of Charles Henry and John Harbottle. All are probably Victoria. Also I am presuming my grandfather James Walton was born in Ballarat also- it certainly was Victoria.
Thanks a million and for all you've already done. Happy New Year
Kind regards,
Elizabeth

Cant see a death for Margaret PARNELL ( RITSON )...but for the State of S.A i can only search up to 1915.

However...the S.A.G.S ( South Australian Genealogy Society ) on-line shows a death listed in the Newspapers Government Gazettes .

1.
Surname: PARNELL
Given name(s): Margaret Catherine
Source date: D 1917

You can access this site on-line, and it may help track down your RITSON family and burial places also ( perhaps )

Copy/paste this link into your browzer

Tony, YOU ARE WONDERFUL- you've given me so much information.
I did know that WW and MJ had one other son but the tree I was given didn't give him a name, and i presumed he died as a baby. I didn't know there were 2 more.. My father (Ian Harbottle Ritson son of James is still alive (92) and he will be fascinated. He was very much the baby of the family and hardly knew any of his aunts and uncles.
Sorry to ask again, but can you find out when William Harbottle Rtson and Margaret Parnell (nee Ritson) died?
Thanks again - i am really indebted to you for all your help.
Kind regards,
elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth.

Firstly, i cant help re the burials for South Australia regarding the RITSON family....as i live in Victoria, and my knowledge of Cemeteries in S.A is limited.
But as it appears you live in S.A.......i would search the Norwood area, as this is where it appears the majority of RITSON's deaths were registered.

My information regarding BDM's for S.A and most states in Australia is a collection of BDM cd's for each state, as my own Ancestors moved around this country also.

They ( My Ancestors ) have cost me a fortune in Ozzie cd's....lol

Thankyou SO much Tony.
Have you any idea which cemetery WW and MJ are buried? Also any info on their son William Harbottle Ritson (baptised 30th Sept 1853 In Hexham Northumberland)- I know he married and stayed in country Victoria .His parents first emigrated to Daylesford. He was a railway surveyor and lived in Narracan in 1882. I know nothing else.
Also Margaret Ritson was born around 1854 probably in Hexham. She married a Mr ?W Parnell from Kadina SA and had a family. I can't find any other info at all about her. - can you?
Your help is really appreciated.- I have spent quite some time trying to find out the information you have just sent me! How did you find this information? - I'm still new at this.
Regards,
Elizabeth(nee Ritson)Adelaide
