Just an update on Ellen Powell birth, I have now had the results back from searches done at Southport GRO, Medway Archive and Medway RO,
No luck there.
So any ideas as what to do next? would be much appreciated.

Ellen Powell as far as I know only married once, spinster on M/cert,
but I am not sure of Ellen mother, did she remarry? was she a widower when she married Edward Powell? I still think their is a connection between Thomas Hartington, Ellen Burns, and Ellen Powell?

Hi,
I phoned Medway and the lady who gave me the info, checked it out, and found that she had made a mistake, she had switched surnames around (I have been guilty of that) Ellen Powell, Thomas Harington?
The downside to this is that I have put you thru a lot of work, in my haste to find her; I should have phoned Medway in the first place. As I have been searching for Ellen Powell birth for over 2 years now, I thought that this was the clue I had been waiting for, now it’s back to the drawing board.
So please except my apologies for misleading you.

Thomas Hartington married 1915 dec qt West Derby .On the same page Fanny G Power

Just had a look at the 1911 census - not viewed the original.

Can't see Ellen (Helen) with the family. The only Helen I can see was born in 1908.

If the records are right? She was born between March 1873 and August 1873?

And should have been registered in Medway Kent



My mother was born 8th June 1919 Bootle and she said that her mother was 46 when she was born.



There is a Edward Powell who died in 1878 aged 26. June Qtr, Vol 2a page 282
I will phone Medway tomorrow and see if they have more info

What is her married name?. Who are the witnesses on the marriage cert?

From 1891/01/11 census all say she was born Chatham Kent
And from the 1891 census she is living in Bootle where she stay for the rest of her life

The only other clue is on the 1911 census there is a visitor called HARTINGTON? (Harrington?)THOMAS, VISITOR, MARRIED, M, 35, DOCK LABOURER, Born CHATHAM KENT

Gee. They could have at least given the RG refs for their sighting!!

This is all they gave me:- The only information that I can give you is that there was an Ellen Powell aged 10 living in Maidstone, born Chatham, on the 1881 census, I am not absolutely certain that this is your Ellen but that is the closest I could get.
