Thanks so much for looking Dee and Starr1!

Have checked these out, but no luck. It would need a marriage of Emma Whitehouse to someone with surname Head or Henry Hillier to Emma Buller for either to work, and I can't see either!

Obviously favoured the Birmingham find, but just can't make it fit.

Fingers crossed for that marriage cert!

Thanks again.

Thank you very much for that Dee. Will have a look tomorrow, tired and not a little drunk!!!
(Is that allowed? Is it an offence to be drunk in charge of a family tree?)

Hi Jan,

Looking at the marriage date I wondered about this one;

March 1862;

Buller Isaiah James Birmingham 6d 1[358]4

Then I looked at the trees on ancestry and found this;

Name: Isaiah James Buller
Birth: Dec 1842 - Derbyshire
Marriage: 1862 - Birmingham
Parents: Francis Buller, Harriet
Spouse: Emma Whitehouse

If it's wrong I'll just bill you!
I mean, she was born in Smethwick, what does one expect?
Will let you know how it goes.
(Oh God, here goes, offending someone else!"!)

LOL - you know there's a very good chance it's the one you want! I mean it's not a 100% cert but how close have you managed to get so far? Got to be worth it!

LOL Jan!

If I were you I would! Emma and Emily are almost interchangeable - especially if she was not particularly literate - or one of those nervous types not prepared to tell the vicar that he's written it down wrong!

Me again.

You know, that Emily Whitehurst name is bugging me. Would it be very self-indulgent to get that cert I wonder ....

Hi starr1.

Thanks so much for looking for me. I never said Emma's birth year did I? Not trying to be difficult, just really trying not to duplicate my other thread! Anyway, she was born 1841 Smethwick, so area perfect but not year sadly!

Obviously any input is very much appreciated, and if you want to mosey on over to my other thread I would be chuffed to bits.

I am starting to wonder if they ever married at all really!

Thanks again.

Thanks everyone!

Mrs grumpy, thanks for finding Emily Whitehurst, - it's very tempting and so close. However, Emma is always Emma on census reports, and Emma Whitehouse on the birth cert I have for one of the children. I could go with Whitehouse/Whitehurst more than Emma/Emily, don't know what you folks think. I must also look at the possibility she married before.

Sylvia, thanks for that, doesn't look like my Emma then!

To answer the question, I am "pursuing" Emma now, so to speak!

Thanks too to everyone else. Onward and upward!

And the other thing to think about is whether Emma married someone else before she married Henry.

I've been tracking down a woman on my One Name Study - she married one chap - he died fairly soon after the marriage - and less than a year after his death she married another chap. Luckily they are on the London marriages on Ancestry so I've been able to unpick it - but I would not have spotted it otherwise ...

Are you following Emma or Henry.

I spotted this one which seems spookily close to Emma Whitehouse:

I've looked at the image on freebmd for Isiaiah Buller as per my previous post and I am pretty sure the page number for him is 184, so looks like he is the missing groom.

Have also checked the image on Ancestry which is a bit clearer and it definitely looks like 6d 184 for him.

So not Henry Hillier I'm afraid.

Astra

I just tried that, it's my usual way of finding a missing name ....... in this case it doesn't!!

You still only get the 3 names.

which means there has been a mis-translation of one of the numbers, or possibly the place name.
