Firstly, just to say this is linked to the following thread, though it is a request in its own right so no slapped wrists please!

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1190679

I have been looking for a marriage of an Emma Whitehouse in the Birmingham area, and this might fit the bill, but there is an entry missing:

Marriages Mar 1862
Atkins Ann Birmingham 6d 184
Whitehouse Emma Birmingham 6d 184
Wiseman Frederick Charles Birmingham 6d 184

I know I can just get the cert but is there anyway of retrieving the other name?

Thanks for the reply starr1. Am a bit wary of mentioning spouse as I do not want anyone duplicating anything (though haven't actually been down this route yet).

Oh well, here it is - Henry Hillier!

Many thanks

you can try various combinations on freebmd searching the quarter and district and leaving vol and page number blank etc to see if there's an obvious mistranscription

there is this one
Buller Isaiah James Birmingham 6d 1[358]4
haven't looked any further than the Bs

worth then looking at the index to double check

If you go to Free BMD and check Marriage/1862 both date boxes/March in both month boxes and then Birmingham in the Districts it will bring up all of the names.

I just tried that, it's my usual way of finding a missing name ....... in this case it doesn't!!

You still only get the 3 names.

which means there has been a mis-translation of one of the numbers, or possibly the place name.

I've looked at the image on freebmd for Isiaiah Buller as per my previous post and I am pretty sure the page number for him is 184, so looks like he is the missing groom.

Have also checked the image on Ancestry which is a bit clearer and it definitely looks like 6d 184 for him.

So not Henry Hillier I'm afraid.

Are you following Emma or Henry.

I spotted this one which seems spookily close to Emma Whitehouse:

Marriages Mar 1866 (>99%)
Clury Martha Birmingham 6d 18 Scan available - click to view
HILLIER Henry Birmingham 6d 18 Scan available - click to view
WATSON Charles Birmingham 6d 18 Scan available - click to view
WHITEHURST Emily Birmingham 6d 18 Scan available - click to view

And the other thing to think about is whether Emma married someone else before she married Henry.

I've been tracking down a woman on my One Name Study - she married one chap - he died fairly soon after the marriage - and less than a year after his death she married another chap. Luckily they are on the London marriages on Ancestry so I've been able to unpick it - but I would not have spotted it otherwise ...

Thanks everyone!

Mrs grumpy, thanks for finding Emily Whitehurst, - it's very tempting and so close. However, Emma is always Emma on census reports, and Emma Whitehouse on the birth cert I have for one of the children. I could go with Whitehouse/Whitehurst more than Emma/Emily, don't know what you folks think. I must also look at the possibility she married before.

Sylvia, thanks for that, doesn't look like my Emma then!

To answer the question, I am "pursuing" Emma now, so to speak!

Thanks too to everyone else. Onward and upward!

Hi starr1.

Thanks so much for looking for me. I never said Emma's birth year did I? Not trying to be difficult, just really trying not to duplicate my other thread! Anyway, she was born 1841 Smethwick, so area perfect but not year sadly!

Obviously any input is very much appreciated, and if you want to mosey on over to my other thread I would be chuffed to bits.

I am starting to wonder if they ever married at all really!

Thanks again.

Me again.

You know, that Emily Whitehurst name is bugging me. Would it be very self-indulgent to get that cert I wonder ....

LOL Jan!

If I were you I would! Emma and Emily are almost interchangeable - especially if she was not particularly literate - or one of those nervous types not prepared to tell the vicar that he's written it down wrong!

LOL - you know there's a very good chance it's the one you want! I mean it's not a 100% cert but how close have you managed to get so far? Got to be worth it!

If it's wrong I'll just bill you!
I mean, she was born in Smethwick, what does one expect?
Will let you know how it goes.
(Oh God, here goes, offending someone else!"!)
