Nope

Thomas CB Powell is nothing to do with this family

I have this family worked out thanks and Tomas is John & Marys G/Son......And they also had a son Thomas ( Tomey on the 1901)

I should also add that i know who the G/Son Parents were too

My original query was to see which Tomas it was on the 1911 ...which Somerset girl gave me

OH dear an hour ago i said i was going...FB is soooo much fun

Jeanette Report 26 Oct 2009 00:32

I think I may have worked this out.....see what you all think.

I believe Tomas powell dob 1899 to be the son of John and Mary and Thomas cb powell to be the grandson. Thomas cb powell has father listed as william which could be the son of John and mary.

There is only one tomas on both 1901 and 1911, and I believe he was mistakenly listed as grandson, could be on that day of census 1911 both tomas and thomas were in the house, grandson visiting for the day and possible confusion when telling enumarator this one is tomas and that one is thomas and one of those is our grandson ....confusion maybe need to find out this sarah's name mother of thomas cb powell as william was listed as single in 1911. It pretty much looks like there were 2 thomas's born to this family as a whole though with different spellings.

Just a thought and me trying to work out a puzzle

So "the same year" meant "the same year as Tomas, grandson", not "the same year as the census". Might have confused me, too ...

1901 household

John Powell 50
Mary A Powell 48
Augusta Powell 23
Christiana Powell 20
William Powell 18
John Powell 15
Janey Powell 6
Tomey Powell 2 born Fulham

1898-1900, I see only one Tom*/Thom* born in Fulham:

Births Jun 1900
Powell Thomas Charles B Fulham 1a 322

and he's this one in 1901 (and the only other one in Fulham in 1911):

Name: Thomas C B Powell
Age: 1
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1900
Relation: Son
Father's Name: William
Mother's Name: Sarah
Where born: Fulham, London, England
Civil parish: Fulham

Is the independent existence of Tomey in 1901 established, or is it possible he was recorded as son when he was really grandson, e.g. a child of one of the adult daughters?

I would ask the same about Jane, myself. That's a big gap between the 15-yr-old and the 6-yr-old ... (Although I do see there was also an infant Robert in 1891.)

Remember, Julie -- nobody else knows whether what someone *knows* about their family comes from reliable records!

Sylvia,

Please don`t let all this upset you...I know where you were coming from, as would many others.

You have offered much helpful info and advice over the years to not just my threads but many others that i have read, or even contributed to myself.

You are a valuable helper on here, unfortunatly Julie seems to have misunderstood you and taken some things personally.

Lets hope this won`t put you off helping in the future, you are a valued member of GR.......

Julie.

Please be careful about how you respond to members offering help and suggestions

You will find when you have finished doing your tree yourself and you are left with a few unanswered questions ( as we all are) that help might not be forthcoming.

Other helpers see your reaction and will think twice before offering assistance.

Dont shoot yourself in the foot please

What it does teach is the value of checking census images before posting information.
I realise cut and paste is used for speed but then you have to ask for details of relationships and not assume they are always children of the head

Its also picks up mistakes in ages such as children transcribed as 6 years and the image says 6 months

I was looking for a child once who was 40 years older than his father on the census due to mistranscribing his age.

Difficult when the enumerator puts a checking line through the age

Julie

Julie Report 25 Oct 2009 19:21

But you didn't need to point anything out to me cos like i said it was all good

The census i had asked for was the 1911

I have my Uncles B/C so i know who his Parents were ...what i want to know was which Tomas was on the 1911......

Now i know why i don't ask for looks up & why i rather to do my tree myself

Julie

I did not intend to make you look stupid

I did not look at the census image itself ............ .. why should I?

I just noted that you said re Tomas as a grandson, "This is the confusing part as they also have a son Called Thomas born the same year lol
but its all good though"

I noted that the ages on the census as posted said they were 65 and 66 ..... and it struck me that there was something strange about that and the belief that they had a child that year.

I myself would not have been so upset if someone had pointed out a similar thing to me ......... I would have double checked my facts

............... and probably posted in reply that "well, the age on that census is wrong according to all other records. I shall have to check whether it is a mis-transcription or an error on the image."

Don't worry .................... I won't bother you again.

Well done MarionFromScotland

It does say that Tomas was Grandson

Julie

Julie Report 25 Oct 2009 08:01

I think you'll find it say 65 in 1911 & on the 1901 she was 48

So in 1899 that made her 46

So oh dear i think you're a bit wrong then

I didn't realise you were so touchy ...no not touchy you tried to make me look stupid & that i don't know what im talking about

She was 65 in 1901

which means she was 63 in 1899

a bit of a medical miracle if she did have a child!

That is all that I meant!

and no, I have not been followigng you around. Why would I want to do that?

Just happened to have looked at a couple of threads that you happened to have posted on earlier, and remembered

I didn't realise you were so touchy .............. but I will in future!
