Trying to trace grandfather James Mc Caig, born 1878c. Wife Rose Margaret Mc Millen, Rose born in England of Irish parents. Settled in N. Ireland. james left Rose with seven children and I believe lived the rest of his life out in Manchester or Liverpool & remarried. |

Did James and Rose divorce? Have you found either of them on either the 1911 census for England or Ireland? |

Unsure if there was a divorce! One would assume so, but no details. |

If James wasn't wityh Rose in 1911, then there is one about the correct age on the 1911 cnsus living in West Derby. If you also look on FreeBMD there are a few possible marriages in the Liverpool area for James McCaig. I don't see a divorce on the National Archives site for him but then he may have divorced in Ireland. Then again, he may not have remarried until after Rose's death but just lived with someone who was known as Mrs. McCaig - not uncommon in the early 1900s as divorce was more difficult and expensive than nowadays. |

Hi, this is all great information and looks as though I might be able to track James down when I get a look at the marriage certificate. |

I can't see a possible for James on the 1901 census but perhaps he was at sea. |

Hello again, I don't think this fits, in 1911 census Rose was 33yrs old which gives her a D.O.B. of 1878. |

I have had a look at that 1891 census and yes that does look like your Rose. Have you found her in 1901 yet? That one that I posted earlier seems the only likely one on Ancestry. Given that David's birth was registered in the Sep. qtr., it seems likely that she would have been in the area at the time of the census (the night of the 31st March). Then again maybe she was in Ireland and came back to Liverpool for the birth. |

Well her parents were still in Liverpool. And she is with them and so is James but the name is McKay and it looks like McKay on the image. |

Hello my Friend, I've just received the marriage register of James & Rose. Some interesting information, James was a widower & listed mariner as an occupation. He was 32 years old at marriage date of 26/01/1904which confirms his birthdate of 1872. Rose was 26yrs old & also confirms her birthdate. |
