Hi
Vicci - Thank you so much for the further information, you are so helpful and I am really grateful! I actually heard about Lallargie Hunt for the first time earlier today from a new contact and I have ordered her birth certificate to find out which Martha her mother is since she appears to be the daughter of Thomas Willomatt Hunt junior born 1827 ....... and the grand daughter of my Thomas Hunt senior born 1806. I also heard from my new contact that this Thomas Hunt situation is a complete can of worms and very confusing for even the most experienced genealogist (of which I am not) ....... there is another Thomas Willomatt Hunt born 1856 (third generation and I have ordered his birth certificate too) who also goes under the surname of Glensor and later emigrated to New Zealand. I dare to think who the father of Thomas Hunt 1806 was...... probably another Thomas Hunt, so I'm not even going to go there at the moment...... oh my poor head!
Marion - I have sent you a message about Customs House and the address you are interested in....
Very Best wishes Hilary

Hi Hilary. Thanks for the generous offer. My lot were mostly Customs Officers so a photo or postcard showing the Custom House would be wonderful. They lived at 15&17 John Street,Mile End Old Town. Don´t know if the street still exists.Probably didn´t survive the blitz. I live in Spain,so your offer is much appreciated. Regards. Marion

Thanks Christina
My Thomas Hunt was born in Stepney, Middlesex about 1806 which is verified by 1851 census where he is shown with his first wife Eliza. So, it could well be that the Thomas Glensor ( born 1811 in Aldgate) you have found is indeed the first husband of Martha.
I have fortunately just come into contact with someone who may have some more information on the Glensors so fingers crossed I may be able to unravel a bit more with their help and will also use the information you have provided too.
Thanks once again.
Hilary

Hi
Thanks for trying to help Polly, I do actually have the 1841 census details......... it really is 1861 census that holds the key to a few mysteries.
Marion - thanks for that at least I now know not to bother looking any further. I actually travelled to the East End and visited Stepney for the first time in person yesterday looking for my ancestors properties and a grave which I photographed. I had such an interesting time that I am planning to go back so if you are not local and would like a photo of a property in Stepney please do drop me a message and I will try and find it for you.
Best wishes Hilary

Hi
Thanks for all of your replies. My previous thread was about Amy Willomatt Hunt and we established in the end that she belonged to Thomas Willomatt Hunt junior and not Thomas Hunt senior who I am now trying to find in the 1861 census to confirm which family he is living with as step children have been discovered..
(Vicci - on a separate note, I actually found a birth certificate image for Martha on line and also her baptism but still none the wiser really about her as there is every indication that both senior and junior were married to Martha's too. Since they both had the same occupation it's difficult to establish which is which as ages are not disclosed (!).
I wasn't aware that there were problems with the 1861 census and in view of your comments, Marion and Vera, it appears that I am not going to find him.
Thanks for looking Best wishes Hilary

Hi Hilary. I have a problem with 1861 for Stepney too. My g grandfather had a son born there in 1860 & 2 of his sisters married from the same street in ´63 & ´65 respectively. Have them in 51 & 71 but no trace of them in 61 although they had all clearly been living in the same stree for at least 5 years. Had put it down to Ancestry mistranscription but having read your thread I´m not sure. Marion

Hi
I am looking for the whereabouts in 1861 census of Thomas Hunt born 1806 in Stepney died Aug 1872 Stratford, Middlesex
1851 Census - shows family living at 142 Whitechapel Rd, Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets. Thomas head of household aged 45 and a cheesemonger, Eliza Hunt his wife aged 45 of datchett, Bucks, Thomas Hunt aged 24, George Hunt aged 22, and the following unrelated - Stephen Hermitag aged 21 (shopman), Robert Bicker aged 19 (porter), Richard Tappender aged 24 (Barman) and Mary Stelland aged 29, (House servant) who was born in Cork, Ireland
I've found the 1871 census which confirms he had anither daughter , Martha, and his marriage to her mother, another Martha but not the 1861 when he appears to be missing:-
1871 Census - Shows Thomas Hunt Age: 60 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1811 and occupation as a Retired Merchant living in Water Lane, Stratford. Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Martha Gender: Male Where born: Middlesex, England Civil parish: West Ham Ecclesiastical parish: St John Town: Stratford County/Island: Essex Country: England Registration district: West Ham Sub-registration district: Stratford ED, institution, or vessel: 9 Household schedule number: 14 Household Members: Name Age Thomas Hunt 60 Martha Hunt 47 Maria Glenser 20 Samuel Glenser 20 Martha Hunt 11 Emma Summers 22
I's be grateful if someone could help locate him in 1861 as there appears to be some confusion, which may involve the Glensors who appear as step children in 1871
Thank you Hilary
