Thank you very much Wayne/Tracey,
You have certainly helped me a lot.
Thank you Paul for your input as well.
At least there is something exciting that happened
by a member of the family.
The crime of assault has seemed to snowball into many
crimes by Theresa!!

Susan..... don't know in the country where you are (or even if you are in the UK)..... but you may get more from a visit to the Lancashire Records Office at Preston. I have a great grandfather who was also a constant visitor to the wrong side of the law. In his larceny convictions, it say's who he stole from, witnesses names, where it occured, etc.

It may also be worthwhile looking at what is called a 'Calender of Prisoners'. From this record, I knew my great grandfather served time in Lancaster, Preston, Manchester and Liverpool prisons, so you may find out where she served her time, etc

Thank you for the info about Lancs. record offices.
Unfortunately I am at the other end of the country.
I can't manage to get up there.

I have a feeling that there were two Theresa Taylors involved here. I read what I could find in the 19th Century British Newspapers site and the 1891 ones don't seem to be the same person.
As Tracey pointed out, yours would have been in prison already, and the purse stealing was as a result of an encounter in a pub.
(Your Theresa apparently threw a lit paraffin lamp at Matthew after he'd come home drunk and was abusing her.)

Thank you Maureen,
I did wonder if there was more than one.
I thought that I would put out the request for the dates shown.

Tracey,
I can't find any dates for her marriage to Matthew Taylor.
She is on the 1881 and 1891 census.
Not with him on the 1871.
Matthew married again 1892.
Is this of any help?
