Please can any one look up the baptisms at Boldre Hampshire for, Sarah Budden born c1842, Charlotte Budden born c1846 and Elias Budden born c1849. I cannot find the registrations births under Budden of variations.
I also can’t find Elias in any census after the 1851, there is no record of death.
Thank you Ann

I will have a look and get back to you

Ann Report 20 Sep 2009 23:06

Thank you very much Elizabeth, I really appreciate that.
I have even looked for the children as unnamed Budden in birth index with no luck. I think Elias may have had two Christian names like his brother David Thomas, who was Thomas in the 1851.
Thanks again.

I checked my BVRI discs for Buddens in Boldre. Unfotunately the records for Boldre only go up to 1812. There is this one. Could he be your James, aged 51 on the 51 census? I know you said you had his age as 23 but that's not possible if he had a daughter aged 23?

BUDDEN, James Christening
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 15 Jun 1800 Recorded in: Boldre, Hampshire, England
Father: Thomas BUDDEN
Mother: Jane
Source: FHL Film 1041228 Dates: 1663 - 1812
Update: Just had a look at the original of that 1851 census. James Budden was 51. His wife Jane was 46 and he had a son James 23. There's no daughter Fanny.

No sign of any of them in the Boldre baptisms !

The fiche are very feint but I think I would have found them !

however

Got home and checked my handbook on the Hampshire collection of P/Rs and found that for Boldre "see also North Baddesley and Sway"
I think North Baddesley will not help as it was formed from Boldre in 1859 but Sway sounds more hopeful as it was formed from Boldre in 1841 so I will pop back and take a look.

Unfortunately the Boldre buriels fiche 1814-1874 have gone missing !

Will let you know what happens

Thank everyone for their help, & thank you very much Elizabeth for going to look for them.
I found this

21 Jan 1873 BUDDEN William Elias 25 B. PLUMBLEY Elizabeth 30 S. G/F BUDDEN Elias. B/F PLUMBLEY Barnabas. At Yarmouth IOW
The Elias I am looking for grandfather was Elias, I wonder if he didn’t know the name of his father?
(I have found this twice before in other families)
I then looked at the census
1881 IOW
William E. BUDDEN Head M Male 34 East Boldre, Hampshire, Boot Maker
Mary Ann BUDDEN Wife M Female 29 Ha...ber Winford, Devon,
Mary Eveline BUDDEN Daur Female 6 m Yarmouth, IOW, Hampshire,
High Street Census Place Yarmouth, Hampshire, RG11 Piece / Folio 1188 / 74 Pg 2

No birth for William Elias born 1848 but found these
Births Dec 1847
BUDDEN William Lymington 8 151
BUDDEN William Lymington 8 157
BUDDEN William Lymington 8 153

1851 census
Budden William 1848 Hants Boldre Lymington, Lymington
Budden William 1847 Hants Boldre Lymington, Lymington

Was the third William, William Elias, but known as Elias, son of James & Jane?

Ann

I am wondering why you think "your" Elias' grandfather was William or William Elias ?

The only baptism for a James Budden at Boldre was 15 June 1800 s Thomas and Jane (they seem to have had a fancy for wifes called Jane !!)
as Margaret gives

Thomas BUDDEN and Jane LAMBERT married at Boldre 11 November 1789
they also baptised
21 Nov 1790-Thomas buried 1825 age 34
07 Apr 1793-Sarah buried 1816 age 22
28 Feb 1796-Elizabeth
07 Jan 1798-Mary

An Elias and Jane Budden baptised a Thomas at Boldre in 1786 but he would be too young to be the father of James in 1800

Hi,
Some time ago someone I was in contact with someone who told me they found that Thomas father was Elias, they didn’t say where they found the info, I never heard from them again, so Elias is in pencil & has a large ? beside him until I find out more.

Thank again to every one who has so kindly added info.

I have checked the Sway P/R fiche---no luck !

I have also re checked the Boldre fiche and had a look at the Lymington ones without finding any Buddens (or Buttons) the only ones which cannot be checked are the Non Comformist registers (which are not kept at HRO )

I cannot see them in the Birth Indexes either-have you found them ?

Sorry !!

Hi Elizabeth.
Thank you so much for trying to find the baptism of Sarah c1842, Charlotte c1846 & Elias c 1849. I haven’t found a birth for them under the names given in the census, unless they were given two names & used the second one, or they weren’t registered?

I don’t have access to the 1851 census, but have attempted match up the census index with the births from Feee BMD, but that didn’t help, I just got confused.
