Hello

Eliza Bolton marries in 1857 Shoreditch 3rd Q to either John William Bolton or William Booth Hagall. Can someone please see who she is married to in the 1861 or 1871 censuses and if she was born in Birmingham c1823 please.

I can't find William Hagell on the 1861 census, but there are lots of John Boltons, so not conclusive. There is a John Bolton age 27 with wife Rebecca age 20 in Edmonton.

You may have to buy the marriage cert to find out for sure who married who.

Yes Vera that is my Eliza Bolton in the house of correction in 1851. She committed bigamy receiving 2 yrs hard labour. She was married to William Bolton and commited bigamy with Josiah Mercer.

Yes that is the marriage entry Helen.

Eliza is on the 1881/91 census living in Shoreditch, London with her daughters family. Her daughter is then named Mary Ann Vince and married to Charles Vince.

I was just thinking that maybe she remarried to John William Bolton thus keeping the same surname of Bolton.

My Eliza was definately born in Birmingham Vera.

My Eliza was formerly Eliza Bushell and married William Bolton in Yardley, Worcester in 1841. Eliza Parkes was another Eliza that married another William Bolton. I also have the further 2 marriage certs you have mentioned.

I am just missing Eliza's whereabouts in 1861 & 1871. Also Eliza & William's daughter Mary Ann Bolton on the 1861 census.

William Bolton b1820 Birmingham (Lampmaker / Gasfitter) is last seen in Birmingham in 1851. Mary Ann is with grandparents John & Susannah Bolton in 1851.

Perhaps Eliza went incognito after the bigamy conviction ?

This was given to me by another researcher. Could you check to see if the Mary Ann in this record is really spelt Poulton.
