I am trying to trace Richard Miller born c1842.
His marriage certificate states he married in Nov 1872 Ealing - he was a Mason - aged 30 - there is no fathers name.
His wife is a widow on 1881 census so he died between 1872-1881
There are so many Richard Millers born around that time and as there is no fathers name on his marriage I would not know if I had the correct birth certificate. SO, I thought I may be able to trace him back via the census - as he was a Mason in 1872 I feel he may well be one on 1871 census , but I cannot find him, can anyone help!

He had a son in Newington in 1877, and his wife is living in Newington in 1881 (she was also in Newington in 1871 living with her mother just before the wedding)

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Aug 2009 15:25

Stephen it would help if we knew the name of the son they had in 1877. I can't find her on the 1871 census. Reading your thread again I realised that I had put the marriage up for 1872 and the couple on the 1871 census must be wrong!!!!!!!

When you say Helena was with her parents on the 1871 census what was she down as please name wise where born? Year of birth etc........

It will help if people look at Stephen's previous thread 1171678 where there is much more info!

Stephen Report 20 Aug 2009 15:44

i have all the information I need now on his wife Ellen Stow. My main aim now is to trace husband Richard Miller.....to try to find his parents. I didnt add this to my other thread as I was after a completely different search - on the Millers not the Stows. The son they had waas John Miller 1877 Newington - but i think I have all the information I need on him.... I am just interested in finding Richard Miller c1842 on the 1871 census - hopfully as a mason

Is this the marriage you have?

Stephen

Stephen Report 20 Aug 2009 15:58

yes thats their marriage

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Aug 2009 16:15

Well if thats their marriage it was'nt the one I put up before which you said was their marriage. Have you got the cert for Ellen and Richard or the one for Helena Stone and Richard?

Who were Ellen's parents as I still can't find her on the 1871. I am only trying to find some link so need places of birth for Ellen. You have to understand I don't know any of these families and can only go on the info you provide. I am really trying to get something for you but without certain details it is very hard. I can't even find John with his mother where you say she is a widow. Was he born Surrey Newington?

Stephen

Stephen Report 20 Aug 2009 17:03

there is an error with the marriages she is on it as Helena Stow.......but looking at it it could be transcribed as stone.........Ellen (now Miller) is with he son John and William, they are with her mother Ellen Stow in 1881. Ellen Miller is a servant. The date you have for the Ealing marriage is the same but it says Stow not stone...... Are the two certificate numbers different then????
She was born 1852 Peckham.......in1881 she was in Newington.......her parents were Moses Stow (deceased in 1881 census) and Ellen Maden

Stephen

Stephen Report 20 Aug 2009 18:12

can someone please check that the Helena stone marriage to richard Miller 1872 is the same certificate numbers as the Ellen Stow marrying Richard Miller 1872..............I am 99% sure they are

Stephen Report 30 Aug 2009 10:35

I have just got back the death certificate for Richard Miller - the wandsworth one - and it is the correct one as it mentions Ellen Stows mother as the informant. Richard died age 39 in 1881 at the county lunatic asylum - it was registered in Wandswoth Surrey - it states he was a fibre weaver of St saviours.
Looking back at the MCof his marriage in 1872 Ealing , middlesex (the writing is really hard to read) we thought it said occupation as Mason but now looking at it IT MAY say weaver - the writing is that bad.
So, can anyone help me find Richard b1842 who is a weaver on the 1871 census
