This from IGI is interesting:

Ada Barclay

Event(s):
Birth: 03 MAR 1879

Christening: 21 OCT 1879 St Peter'S, Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Parents:
Father: Frank Barclay
Mother: Mary Ellen

Source Information:
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type:

C027828

Can't find them on a census. I wonder if it means Mary Ellen was married before or she listed Frank as the father for the baptism.

just been trying to do a bit more research on mary ellen barkley. I found a birth and a death in 1877 of a David william Barkley and the mother was Mary ellen. I cant find a link to frank as gr dont give this information and annestry want to charge more just to view the record?? expensive business this research. anyone get a result for this one??

looks like the baby died the same year and was born in west derby lancashire.. red herrin?? i am starting to think was mary ellen barkley married before?? and was that realy her married name.. could mean my tree is a bit wrong with her family!!

mmmmm

I did find a Frank but he was born 1863 and only one to be found on 1891/1901 census with same birth year and unmarried.
If she had married a Frank i can't find it or a death for frank.
I also tried francis but no luck.
Looks like either Ada's birth or marriage for mary Ellen might throw a bit of light on the matter.

doing a bit more research on ada.. born 1879 as a ada barkley when she died in 1882 she was a ada Eckho at age 3. no sign of the haga name change?

Would it be worth getting her birth and death certificate? will it tell me her mum and dad? were did frank barkley come from?? any ideas??

any ideas? this all happened before her marriage in 1880 to john eckho. ada was also born in manchester and all the other sibblings were in liverpool??

mmmmm going to think about this over putting the kids to bed i think!

That is the Frank i found but he didnt marry at least up to 1901.

Maryb
Unless as he would have only been about 15/16 at the time of ada's birth it might not have been allowed.
I would get Ada's birth certificate.

I don't think Mary Ellen married Frank. Barkley looks to be her maiden name because I can see her on census records and her siblings' and parents' names match those of her own children.

It could be the vicar allowed her to add the first name of the father for Ada's baptism.

hello all
well i have had some very interesting news from the lady who is related to me who is doing the same tree. she does have the marriage certificate!
""""I HAVE A COPY OF JOHAN ECKEHO AND MARY ELLEN BARKLEY WEDDING CERTIFICATE... hE WAS A LABOURER IN THE LOCAL SUGAR FACTORY CALLED FAIRIES IN THOSE DAYS BUT LATER BECAME TATE ANDLYLE HIS FATHER WAS CALLED PETER HE ALSO IS DOWN AS A LABOURER AND MOST LIKELY WORKED IN THE SUGAR FACTORY ALSO. HER FATHER WAS WILLIAM AND WAS A MARINER. THEY WERE MARRIED ON 8TH jUNE 1880 AT LIVERPOOL PARISH CHURCH. HE WAS 38 AND SHE WAS 26 HOPE THAT HELPS"""

So at least we do know some key facts now..... I go and check my tree is right!
