Just popped home to let dog out!!
Have you the second marriage cert. It hopefully would tell you if he was a widower

Hi Lindsay,

It doesn't say he was a widower, it just says formerly married to and gives her full name and underneath her name says Spinster.

So probably he was divorced from her rather than widowed, though someone else may have a better idea than I .
I don't think I can shed any more light for you

I now think Agnes Laight and Arthur Bennett were married in 1940 and divorceed some when before 1947.

I know the census hasn't been released but can anybody find out if they had any children?
