I havent read through all your thread.
Sometimes if a child died they named another one the same name. I came across that a couple of times.
In saying that it might just be the male line.

Helen, she was going to check the marriage cert to check the parents names again, I haven't heard back yet.

Amanda,

You say you have looked at the death certificate for Jemima Ferguson. If her parents are registered as Thomas Ferguson and Margaret McMurtrie, I can’t really see how the other person can claim her Jemima married with the same parents names mentioned on her marriage certificate.

Did you point this out … and has the other person actually seen the marriage certificate of her Jemima. This is a case where actually viewing the certificates is important to verify information.

As Elizabeth points out previously, there were two Jemima Ferguson’s born. One in 1884 (yours) and another in 1885.

There’s a mix up somewhere along this line ….

I have had a reply from the person with matches and she says Jemima was her great, great grandmother and she lived on to marry???
I'm so confused as they were both born the same year to the same parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sandra

Sandra Report 28 Jul 2009 16:27

Helen & Elizabeth,
I'm sure I have the correct Jemima as I viewed the death cert on SP.
I have sent the other person that I have all the matches with, so I'll wait for a reply from her. (I'm sure she must have the wrong Jemima or I have)

Thank you so much for all your help,I really appreciate it.

That's the same info i got???

Found what looks like this same family on a family tree on Ancestry.

It has Roberta Ferguson as a daughter to Jemima Ferguson who was born 7th April 1884 in Stranraer... and Jemima is down as daughter to Thomas Ferguson and Margaret McMurtrie.

Checked again on Scotlandspeople and there was only one record for a birth for Jemima Ferguson 1884 Stranraer Wigton. If you checked the death certificate and matched up the parents names etc. then you must have the correct information and Jemima definitely died.

Can't think where the other person got her birth info from

According to the tree on Ancestry, Roberta Ferguson went on to marry Samuel Dorans.

Sandra

Sandra Report 26 Jul 2009 21:54

I couldn't either but everything else she has matches with mine ??????
Weird family I have got.

Helen

Helen Report 26 Jul 2009 21:51

Can't find a marriage for Jemima Ferguson and Andrew Murray on Scotlandspeople.

However, it depends on when she married him. Marriages only go up to 1933 on Scotlandspeople.

Sandra

Sandra Report 26 Jul 2009 21:43

Helen, i have 30 hot matches with someone on here and she has Jemima marrying Andrew Murray but I found her death as a baby on SP and I cannot find a marriage to this man?

Helen

Helen Report 26 Jul 2009 21:35

This is only a guess - given that Roberta was born in Wigtown and assuming her mother was living there two years before in 1901. This Jemima was a Nurse Domestic. It may or may not mention this on Roberta's birth certificate. Jemima is a very young mother ... but not that unusual.

Helen,
Thank you, I've found Jemimas death 18th April 1885, I also found a Roberta Ferguson born 18-12-1903, mother Jemima Ferguson. Roberta was Illigitimate, how can I find this Jemimas birth and parents?

Helen

Helen Report 26 Jul 2009 11:26

Could this be the death for Margaret ? Maybe you recognise this area as part of your family research.

Margaret Ferguson / McMurtrie (x-ref names)
1917
County: Dumfries
District: Sanquhar

This person's age ties in with the year Margaret says she was born.

Helen Report 26 Jul 2009 11:14

Amanda,

I checked again for the death and it's there.

Jemima Ferguson
1885
County: Wigtown
District: Stranraer

Enter the surname first ... followed by the christian name. An easily made mistake.

Sandra

Sandra Report 25 Jul 2009 23:38

I have been on SP and I put in all Jemimas details to look up a death but none come up???

Sandra

Had a look on the Scotlandspeople index:

Birth
Jemima Ferguson
1884
Stranraer, Wigton

Death
Jemima Ferguson
1885
Stranraer, Wigton

Don't know if this is your Jemima. You would need to check the certificates to verify the parents names.

You can see some old pictures of Watt St, Kinning Park on:

This is a bit of a cheek but, can you find Jemima Ferguson born c1884 please? she is another daughter? All of the children you have named on here are the names I had apart from Jemima.
