The original boy band They were arguably Britain's first boy band: Four mates who used to sing their way home from the pub who transformed into a 1950s pop phenomenon.
The legacy of The Dallas Boys makes frightful reading: The Osmonds, Bay City Rollers, Bros, New Kids on the Block, Take That, Westlife, blah-blah-blah, whoever-it-is-today - a rash through the cultural fabric of two generations.
It's a synthetic beast the Dallas Boys are not particularly proud of spawning.
They like to think they were a little bit different.
Real-life pals Stan Jones, Bob Wragg, Leon Fisk, Joe Smith and London lad Nicky Clarke were the original cute-as-kittens boy band.
They went to school together, played rugby together and sang four-part harmonies, properly, and in tune, without backing tapes or flash dancers, on live TV.
They were made in Leicester - the original and the best, according to their fans.
You can't blame them for what followed in their wake - but Dallas Boy Stan Jones is not a big fan of their legacy.
"It's all about image and videos today, isn't it?" says the 66-year-old in his elegantly furnished Bushby home.
"It's all so contrived. There's the blonde one, a dark one, a tall one, a short one - it doesn't matter if they can't sing. "They fix all that in the studio."
The Dallas Boys were regulars on TV shows Six-Five Special and Oh Boy! and by 1958/59, they were your mum's favourite group, performing live every week on her favourite show.
"It wasn't five lads singing the same note, it was harmonies," he says.
"And we never mimed," he says proudly. "We had to sing live, on camera, in front of a TV audience of millions. My mouth used to get so dry my tongue felt like a piece of leather."
But the lads kept their nerve and the wheels on the pop star gravy train started churning. Chubby rock-around-the-clocker Bill Haley told them: "There's no-one to touch your kind of act in the States."
The ladies loved them. By the end of 1958, more than 5,000 women had joined their fan club.
"There was plenty of female attention," he says. "It would be churlish to say any different. We were on TV, we were fairly well known, we were five reasonably attractive, heterosexual young men, so, yes, we had our moments."
But the times were a changing for the Dallas Boys.
Four cheeky mop-topped scousers were about to redefine the popular music scene.
The Beatles ushered in a new era of guitars, long hair and raunch.
Overnight, the Dallas Boys looked a little old fashioned.
They plodded on and, ironically, started pulling in better money.
By 1969, Bob Wragg even bought a gold limousine, but the game was over, really.
Stan left in 1974 and became an agent.
Today, he looks after Shane Richie, Lisa Riley and Colleen Nolan.
There's no gold limo on his drive, but the Jag suggests he's doing all right.
Stan rejoined the Dallas Boys in 1988 to play at Cliff Richard's 30-year anniversary bash - in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.
"It was brilliant," says Stan. But there won't be any more reunions. "There's a time and a place for everything, and our time has passed," he said.
