Hi Rose, It is Williams daughter who is helping me. She lives in Norwich so it is easier for her but she has simply now reached a brick wall.
Yes, William did know something but he wouldnt talk about it. My cousin knew all this long before I did because our nan asked Williams wife to get some birth certs for her & she asked William why they all had King on. Im not sure what he told her but nothing was ever revealed to my cousin. She said he was too embarrised by it all.
William remembered his real father, my nans husband, he remembers him in the hospital & wheeling him home at weekends in a water bedded bath chair. The Norfolk & Norwich hospital wasnt too far from where they lived.
Thanks for your interest,
Janice

William James Blake must have know the full story. He would have been 22 when his last half sibling was born.

Do you have contact with any of his relatives?

My cousin has looked in Norwich. She still lives there so she & my other cousin, Irenes daughter have been trying for ages. She just doesnt know what else to try. She cant find the whereabouts of the younger children either.
Irene & my mother are the only 2 left. My mother is the only one who knows about her father, or not if you know what I mean.
The other families didnt want their parents to know in case it upset them. My mother was relieved when I told her because she was beginning to think she was loosing her memory or something crazy.

Hi Londonbelle,
They didnt live with them but use to visit them on a regular basis.
They use to visit as a family. They use to live quiet close & could walk there easily. Still can, its still there.
My gran died in 1956 & she never remarried.

Do you know when your mother and siblings were taken to live with the King family?

When did Gertrude Laura die?

HI,
I have found Edward 1878 living at 84 North Walsham Road Norwich with his wife Ethel Elizabeth & his sons George Henry, Edward and William. He appears to have had 6 children with only 3 living.

Thank you for the 1911 census, Edwards middle name is Carr, which fits as they probably read it wrong.
It was Ashby Street, its me, cant think why I put Road, just to confuse things I expect, sorry about that.

I cant seem to find anything at all for the other children.
Henry (Harry), John, George, Alfred or Edith.
They seem to have just vanished.

My nan really did have a rough time.
She lost her baby son in 1911, her mother died in 1915, her 6 year old daughter in 1917, her father gased himself in her house in April 1921 and her husband Charles was shot in the spine & paralized in 1918, then died in 1921 after being in hospital for the last 3 years.
Then she told her children that their father was her husband & died in 1931. Mum doesnt find it too hard to believe as she never remembered a father living with them but she does find the lies her mother told her difficult to believe. She even took mum to Charles grave & told her he was her father.

Thats right, we have Ivy Lottie Laura Roe born 1911 died when she was 6.
Also Gertrude Roe born 1915, she died 2006.
William James Blake the eldest half sipling born 1908 died 2006.
We found Reginalds grave & marked it & Charles was burried with Ivy, which we marked too. Both these graves had been unmarked.

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 3 May 2009 17:57

Note that Gertrude & Charles married in 1910 so there's a possibility of more half siblings

I have that too, mums eldest brother, who really was Charles son was the informant. My cousin is mums eldest half brothers daugther.
Your right, it is a difficult one,
thanks,
Janice

LondonBelle Report 3 May 2009 17:08

Difficult one this! The only thing that I can suggest is that it might be worth getting a copy of Gertrude Laura's death certificate as the Informant might be a 'King'.
