Hi Rose, sorry about the delay I was ferreting about in my tree!

She was 28! Birth year.......presumably 1883.

Definitely looks like I have to send for the certificate now doesn't it?

If it comes back with the right details on it, I can follow your instructions on letting freebmd know that it's Jervis not Jarvis can't I?

Thanks for your help and encouragement in all this.

Cynthia,

What was her age in 1911?

Thanks Q - you're probably right about the money and if she was underage they were probably 'lying low' too. Oh, don't you just love the intrigue???

Bride and groom would give the same address to save money. It was cheaper if you were living in the same parish

Checked the 1911 - born in Liverpool! So will have to send for the other birth cert I think.

Many thanks Rose. Every family has one don't they? Unfortunately I have two like this - at different ends of the country! Regards.

Cynthia,

I think you need to look at the 1911 census. Check her age and where she said she was born.

I have now received the birth certificate but it is the wrong one!!

The father of this Elizabeth is Charles Jarvis and the mother is Elizabeth (formerly Jones).

The hunt for my Elizabeth continues. Any other ideas are most welcome!

I will offer this cert on BMD share.

Oooha! The plot thickens. Both she and her bridegroom give the same address! Something was obviously going on here!

I have now sent for the birth certificate for Elizabeth Jarvis 1883 so will wait and see what happens.

I haven't looked at the 1911 yet. I've heard it's a bit expensive so thought I would build up a list of people to check on so that I didn't waste time (or money!)

Very grateful for your support on this. Whilst waiting for that certificate, I am going to see what I can find out about her mother (or who I hope is her mother), Elizabeth (nee Thomason)

Thank you again.

Do you have her in 1911? Is she listed as being born 1883 there?

It looks like she got married without her family knowing, said she was 21 so she didn't need permission and gave Elizabeth Deakin's address.

Elizabeth Deakin is at Brighton Terrace in 1901.

Hi Rose, back from church and Sunday lunch etc.

It would have been helpful to have had a sister as witness wouldn't it?

No, they have to go and have a friend!!!

Mind you, they named their last child after their witness Thomas Lewis which completely threw me as the child was apparently known as Ben in the family!!!

That took some sorting out I can tell you. I was everywhere looking for Benjamin Taylor! It was good fun though.

The address on the marriage cert looks like Bughton Terrace but is more likely to be Broughton I would have thought???

Hi Cynthia,

Is there an address listed for Elizabeth? 1901 looks to be 201 Mann St.

Just want to be sure we have the correct Elizabeth. I was hoping a sister would be a witness.

Good morning Rose, back for a very short while till later.

Her father is down as John James Jervis - a labourer. The witnesses were Thomas Lewis and Elizabeth Deakin.

As Barbara so kindly suggests, I think I will have to send for the Elizabeth Jarvis birth certificate as a process of elimination.

Many thanks for your time everyone.

Hi Ozibird, are you well?? Yes, thanks, this is the parents marriage I think. He's definitely Jervis there!! I would prefer to send for his daughter Elizabeth's birth first before sending for John's marriage - if only I could fid it!!!
