I am trying to find a Ethel Georgina Smallbone born 1894 West Derby Liverool. On ethel,s birth certificate she is down as ethel georgina palmer martindale, her mother was mary jane other surnames she has are martindale, smallbone maiden name barnes. Ethel at a later date was called ethel smallbone her mothers married name.

Hi Wilma you are on the right track edward was ethels, half brother Charlotte Barnes was ethels grandmother and the annie melia was ethels half sister, i just can,t find ethel or her mother mary jane.

i,ve come to the conclusion that mary jane never bothered registering in 1901 census, as edward smallbone was like we said living with his grandmother and her eldest son herbert was living with his fathers sister in tottenham London.
Got ethels death certificate and photo,s of her with my grandmother annie melia and she,s buried ethel with her mother in liverpool.
mary jayne died 1941 in st.helens lancs and ethel in 1957 liverpool but what happened to ethel in the years before i think is going to remain a mystery.

Just out of interest, what happened to her husband William?

Did he come from Liverpool? Maybe they were visiting someone and got registered under that name. It seemed to happen a lot.

mary jane was born 4/11/1864 died 21/6/1941 married 27/5/1880 got all 3 certificates been told they could marry at 14.
william,s father was edward henry smallbone born hampshire died tottenham1891 have his death and marriage certificate.
mary janes was henry barnes born liverpool 1833 died liverpool 1865 him and charlotte mary janes mother where only married just over a year
