Find Ancestors

Help I am trying to find info on me great great grandfather Abel Crank.
I found 1861 census married to Martha and had daughter Mary S. I have married certificate for him marrying my G G Grandmother Ann Sudworth in 1870 it states that he is 35 a widower living in Poulton and his father's name Thomas Thean (deceased). I then have my great grandmothers married certificate in 1893 Sarah Ellen Crank which says he his deceased.
I can not find any mention before 1861 of him and can not find any info on either him or Ann after.
Any help would be greatfully appriciated

And he gives his father as Thomas Thean? on his marriage certs. What is Abels occupation.

also what everhappen to Ann? it looks like Ann father bought up their daugthter Sarah

Check above! 1851 and also his baptism in 1831 - it appears he is illegitimate.

Ann is there is 1871 so when does the child turn up with grandad?

Its a very good name to follow, ancestry have parish records back to 17th century on that name in the right area.

Check for deaths of ann crank or her remarriage after he died. - look at freebmd.org

Im wondering if Thean is possibly a mistrans or wrongly read Farran? - long shot though

Thanks for your help Heather, I still can not find anymore info. The christenings only state mother,s name. so Im absolutly lost now. I've been looking for the past 2 days and can find no more info on Abel or his mother. looks like my search ends here for my ancesters.

this is really confussing, on christening he was crank, then in 1841 his farrell, then in 1851 is back to crank and on his marriage cert he states his father is Thomas Thean. so would you say his mother had him out of wedlock and was her name elizabeth crank, if so can not find anything on her either,

You really need a trip to the records office and a trawl through the registers to find out who Liz was, working backwards from the baptism of the two kids that we seemed to have found. If the kids were illegitimate there may be some Bastardy Bonds available at the records office where the father had to support them in some way.

Sorry to sound like an idiot. but I am new to this. do you mean I will have to travel to Cheshire to look at the records?
