Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find the deaths of Jane & Barnett Saxony originally Sasieni. Living in the East End of London.

My cousin thinks that Jane Saxony died around 1941 -1946.
As my cousin was born in 1937 and was named after Barnett, he obviously died just before 1937.

The only info. I have on Barnett & Jane Saxony was from the 1911 census. :-

Barnett Saxony age 35 occ. Bootmaker b Russia
Jane Saxony nee Levy age 34 b Russia

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm sure that must be the right Barnett Saxony. Thankfully it's not too common a surname, and the era sounds promising.

I've looked on the FreeBMD site and there was nothing on there. That gives info till the late 1920's - early 30's, so I'm sure we have the right person.

They are quite an evasive couple , appearing on the 1911 census with their children, the 1st one having been born in London before the 1901, and yet I've never located them on that census.

I just appreciate that you've found me something concrete to start on.

What was the name of their first born ??

Lottie Saxony was b 14:5:1898. On the 1911 census it gives her place of birth as Shoreditch. She doesn't appear on the freeBMD site.

Annie Saxony was born 1899 Bethnal Green. That was the FreeBMD site.

Barbara.....I ought to have added that the 3rd child born Nathan Sept. 1900, was registered as Nathan Sassieni.

This would have sounded very much like Saxony spoken with a foreign tongue !!

I these are the ones on the 1901 census---(Changed name again ?) It does seem to "tally" with the 1911 census

What do you think ?? Lottie, Annie ant NATTY (as he is put in the 1911 census) seem to match up.??? although Barnett and Jane seems to have taken a few years off on the 1911

...You are absolutely brilliant ! I tried alternative names, and never ever would have come up with that. It looks like a few porkies have been told along the way with their ages, but in those days it seemed to be the norm !.

I--Like Shirley--have been trying to find a marriage for Barnett and Jane--Do you think they may have married in England, Carole ? Do you know if they had anymore children after Rose born c1906 (as on 1911 census ) ?

Hi Shirley...I did toy with that marriage of Jane Levy + Jacob Sassieni and wondered whether Barnett was originally a Jacob. Now I'm just not sure !

Have you got any of the childrens Birth certificates ?? Just a thought---but don't know if it will really help as the names seem to be altered quite a bit---most likley because of accent. However Janes maiden name SHOULD be on the birth cert for the children.

Yes there were 3 other children born after Rosie. Hyman b Dec 1911 +Twin bro. Samuel, and Oscar b 1916. All births registered at Bethnal Green.

Like you, I have a hunch that the parents may have married in Russia/Poland.

Unless they had another alias ! Hope not !!

Barbara ....I have the birth Cert. for Rosie. Her mum was entered as Jane Saxony formerly Levy.

Now these top two would tie up with the marriage for Jacob and Janes marriage that Shirley found !!! and yet Barnett seems to have continued with BARNETT all the time--so confusing !!

The best bet would be to send for a birth cert that you definatley know belongs to the family you are looking for , and all SHOULD be revealed
