Only glad to help.

I suppose a few small lessons have been learnt!

Never take for granted what a transcription tells you.... always check it for yourself!! Another has been found minutes ago whereby the childs age is listed as 19 instead of 9!!

Also, when trying to find a marriage alwayd try with both parties seperately if you cannot find a joint match! If you find a sole person use the vol page details for another search or go looking on the full BMD!!

Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 18 Mar 2009 21:34

Hi girls and thank you sooo much for finding that marriage - my friend is over the moon!

I had given her the print-outs to take home with her earlier, so didn't have everything to hand straight away. Somehow though we both completely missed the fact that Rosina and Walter were shown as married in 1891 - mind you, we weren't looking for a marriage under the name of MorEton though! I think we just saw that she was with her parents and he was on his own and didn't look any further.

Walter in 1891 is on RG12; Piece: 1330; Folio 9; Page 12 transcribed as Waller! The child who died wasn't born until after 1901 - also Rosina, she died at a year old. First child was Bertie, registered soon after the 1891 census. So we can probably assume that Rosina went 'home' to mum to have her first baby while Walter was up in the big city trying to earn a living.

Anyway, thank you both again for all your help, it's very much appreciated.

Going for a lie down now, it's bad enough trying to get yer head round your own family, let alone someone else's, especially when they are just starting out and get VERY excited !!

They didn't start having children until after 1891, this makes me think as they married in 1888 that her first child was born/lost around this time and she's recovering with her parents....?

Makes me wonder who Maz had found on the 1891 now, unless she made the same error with this one as she did with the first?

I think tho she has found a different Walter?

Tracey

Yes that's him in 1891 maybe he was visiting his parents for the night.

The whole family could have also been living with her parents anyway.

Sorry I've been away....

Other Maz will be pleased when she returns..

Can you take a look at this one on the 1891.... This is a William Stock, married(?) living with parents??

Now the 1911 def says William overwritten with Walter.... Walter and William are interchangeable.

Is this our man you think?

Relation: Son

Tracey,

Yep I'll put in an amendment as well to Family Relatives..

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 18 Mar 2009 19:50

OK Maz, this is a classic error... Ancestry have mistranscribed Rosina, on the image she is very very clearly a Stock and listed as married. It's a very basic error, always check the image to make sure it matches the transcription. Ancestry is very very good at these!!

I will add an amendment now so others behind us do not make the same mistake!

Interestingly, the original image on the 1911 has his name overwritten from William to Walter...

Also states 6 children born 5 live, 1 death.

Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 18 Mar 2009 19:15

thank you Tracey, I didn't expect anyone to spend credits on this though! they are both shown as single in 1891 so I don't think a marriage in 1888 is feasible. think they were telling porkie pies.

Marilyn that is so weird - I've found it myself now too!

I am coming more and more to the conclusion that they never married.

Where did you find that marriage?

Tracey x

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 18 Mar 2009 19:08

1911 census states 23 years married.

That makes 1888 in my book?

Could Rosina have been married previously?
