I am trying to trace the Trotman family. I have traced back to Thomas Trotman b 1821 probably in Siston Gloucestershire. I have obtained a copy of his marriage certificate which confirms that he married Hannah Silman in 1844. The marriage certificate names Aaron Trotman (still alive at that time) as Thomas' father and one of the witnesses is John Trotman (possibly Thomas' brother?). |

Unless the father was a witness to the marriage, there is no certainty that he was alive at the time of the 1844 event |

On the marriage cert it does say that Hannah's father is deceased but it doesn't say anything next to Aaron's name so I assumed he was still alive. |

I had found the Tom Trotman 1820 baptism in Cliffe Pypard, wilts, but was unsure if this was the correct one as although there is alot of children for Aaron & Esther there is not a John Trotman born circa 1811. |

Thomas & hannah's marriage certificate is very vague about their ages - it just states that they were 'of full age' ! |

Evidently two different Aarons. Aaron & Martha married while Aaron & Esther were still having children: |

On the 1851 census Thomas says he was born Siston, Gloucestershire. |

This death seems more likely than the one I posted earlier |

Thomas seems to be confused ! In the 1841 census he ticked the box to say that he wasn't born in Siston Gloucestershire then in the 1851 census he said that he was born there. As he doesn't appear to know how old he was when he got married - I would say that his memory is not the best ! |

I am now just puzzling over the John Trotman (b 1811) connection. He doesn't appear to be Thomas' brother. I can find no trace of John's birth or marriage on Ancestry.com. I also double checked that George Trotman b1815 wasn't calling himself John - but I can trace George on the later census. |
