I've looked high and low for the death of my greatgrandmother, Mary Storer. Her maiden name was Turner and she married Henry Storer in 1882. She had 2 children, George and Mabel in 1884 and 1886. There is another child, Frederick James born in 1892 but his mother's maiden name is shown as Talbot. I'm wondering if it's the same mother or had Mary nee Turner died. All of the children were born in Hucknall Torkard, Nottingham.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.

I've found Mary on the 1891 census living at 11 Watnall Road, Hucknall Torkard but she isn't on the 1901 or 1911 census. Henry is living with George and Mabel at 61 Carlingford Rd, Hucknall Torkard in 1901. Frederick doesn't show up on any census but I have his birth certificate and I know he survived as he was my grandfather. I've worked out from the census that Mary was born in 1864 in Foleshill, Warwickshire. Henry was 1859 also in Foleshill.

That's all the right family but no sign of Mary or Frederick, that's why I'm wondering if Mary died and Frederick was shipped off to family to be cared for.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 4 Feb 2009 21:01

who are the parents on your fredericks birth cert if mary was a.nee. turner and then we have a talbot come into the equation?

Pamela

Pamela Report 4 Feb 2009 21:03

The parent's on Fredericks birth certificate are Henry Storer and Mary Storer nee Talbot but on George and Mabels's certificates it says that the father is Henry Storer and the mother is Mary nee Turner.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 4 Feb 2009 21:07

well on the 1901 census henry says he is married so there is of course the possibility that mary nee turner was in an institution [and most of them the enumerators only gave initials to so very hard to find if not the workhouse] and he had fred with mary talbot and did the honourable thing by them and gave him a name, have you looked for him under talbot?

Pamela

Pamela Report 4 Feb 2009 21:09

I've tried under Talbot but of course I could have missed him! I feel as though I have running around in circles with this one.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 4 Feb 2009 21:20

there is always the possibility that mary talbot being a different mary has married someone after freds birth and they are under the new"husbands" name somewhere

Pamela

Pamela Report 4 Feb 2009 21:27

I was wondering much the same thing...my grandfather was always a Storer though and Henry attended his wedding in 1926. I'm having a look through any workhouse records I can find for 1901, just in case!

Vicci

Vicci Report 4 Feb 2009 21:31

do you have the birth cert of fred james? does it give the mother's first name / address of where born etc

I think his marriage is 1926 nottingham 1st qtr 7b p 559 spouse GEE

Henry Storer and MAry turner marreid 1882 at Foleshill, there is another henry Storer who married in 1880 also at Foleshill.

There are also 10 marraiges for Henry Storer between 1879 and 1890, so Frederick James's father could have been another Henry.

Vicci

Vicci Report 4 Feb 2009 21:32

just seen your last comment re the wedding

there is a Mary A Storer in the workhouse in 1901

That's the right marriage for Fred J and Gee (Caroline Ann). It's the same Henry that married in 1880, he married Eliza Barnett who died in 1881 after giving birth to Eliza Storer (also in 1881). He didn't seem to hang about remarrying.
Fred's birth certificate is very hard to read. It definately says Mary formerly Talbot and the only part of the address that I can make out is ...Street, Hucknall Torkard.

Pamela

Pamela Report 4 Feb 2009 21:41

I've had a look at Mary A in the workhouse but I'm not sure as I don't think that my Mary had a middle name and she was born in Warwickshire, this one was born in Nottingham. Think I'll call it a night. Many thanks for looking...any more ideas welcomed. It's a real puzzle!
