Hi

Can anybody help me find the birth of Margaret Irving, possible middle name either Noxburgh or Roxburgh. All I know was that she was a pupil at Annan School in 1869.

Thanks for your help. My sister has a tapestry made by Margaret dated 1869, Annan School but we are not sure how she fits in to our family tree. I know that Agnes Irving DOB c 1838 married Charles Gallie DOB c1836 on 04/08/1857 at the Parish Church, Annan. They are my g.g.grandparents. I also know that Agnes had a brother Richard DOB c 1843. Any help in linking these people up would be greatly appreciated.

It would seem that Agnes may be Margaret's half sister.
Do you have Agnes's father from the marriage?

Thanks for the research, I need to work through it to see if I can validate it. Unfortunately the document I have confirming the marriage of Agnes Irving to George Gallie does not give the names of their fathers. I will consider acquiring their marriage certificate but I have quite a few others I need first.

I have found the parents of Agnes Irving. They were William Irving and Janet Irving nee McGowan. Looks like you were right about half sisters as Janet McGowan must have died between 1851 and 1857 as she is deceased on the marriage record of Agnes and Charles Gallie. I can't find Janet's death on Scotlandspeople, any idea where I should look.

I know nothing about Scottish records but google tells me that civil registration did not start until 1855
William remarried in 1853 so his first wife died prior.

Just a thought have you tried looking for Janets death using the name Jessie? Janets often get called Jessie.

As Jim/Thelma suggests, it looks likely that Janet McGowan died before 1853. You will not be able to find a death for her on Scotlandspeople prior to 1855. Your only hope is finding a place of burial with a gravestone giving information.

As already stated: William then married Ann Roxburgh. 15yrs his junior.
