Gwen, I was looking at the 1901censusonline.com, here i found Ainsley's record. I don't have ancestry, i paid for credits on census.com. It was a problem cos i live in Thailand and don't have a credit card.
I now know James was 47 in 1901 and was born in Hartlepool. He had 5 children, Annie, Maggie, James, Robert and Elizabeth.
Hooray. I would be so happy if you could find anything before this.

Truly grateful for your help.
Brian.

Heather and Gwen, looks like i may have to try the Amsley spelling to see what i get. Thanks.

Brian

Brian Report 23 Jan 2009 14:15

Gwen, again thanks. Are you saying wife and daughter are called Annie? On the wedding cert it is spelt Anne or Anni but the daughter is deffinetly Elizabeth.

Heather

Heather Report 23 Jan 2009 14:15

There are a number of Amsley mistransed from Ainsley Brian. If you look at the actual image you see the correct name.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 23 Jan 2009 14:09

Sorry Brian...
What I meant was
A search finds them transcribed as AMSLEY, but the image reads Ainsley.
If you think about it an a...and an..i.... together look rather like an m

They are living in Hutton Henry, Wingate at 7 East View

There is a family shown as AMSLEY in 1901.

Father James has a different occupation, but his wife and a daughter are Annie.
All the family born Hartlepool.

EDIT
Daughter Elizabeth is the right age.

mgnv,
thank you for your reply. I don't think this is the one as nothing seems to gell. But hey, many thanks.

Heather,
According to the marriage cert he is alive. It is possible this is Elizabeth as we are from the Hartlepool area but i'm not sure she is, It depends on whether her father is James, I have a sneaky feeling Anne may have been the mother but again not sure. Sorry, Brian.

They arent leaping out, are they! Dad definitely alive in 1911? I wonder if this is the birth (I dont know the area)

Name: Elizabeth Ainsley
Birth: Sep 1893 - Hartlepool (1859-1938), Durham

I wonder if dad died before the 1901 and mum had remarried?

Brian

Brian Report 23 Jan 2009 13:39

Suzi, 100% correct in your assumption. It shows occupation as quarryman.

What occupation does she give for her father James? It is possible he was deceased but it wasn't recorded...I assume your info is from marriage cert NOT 1911 census?

So, you are looking for James Ainsley from 1901 backwards? What year of birth does he have and where was he born and likely to be living. (Did you get his details from the 1911 census or the marriage cert?)
