RE: FreeBMD.

Just checked my graph and I have now added 10,000 entries. I have been transcribing for 3 years with breaks during the summer months, so not onerous.
If I can do it anyone can, I'm sure that more volunteers are always welcome so come on all you genealogists out there.

Happy New Year to all, Jennifer

Anyone with any free time can join, it is really easy to do, there is no pressure to produce and scans are available for 99% of the transcriptions.

Every little helps, so why not give it a go.

well done Jennifer

and thank you very much for all your hard work

do you live near Uppingham? We stayed there last June, and had a lovely day round Rutland Water! A beautiful area that I had not been to before.

Berona, if you wish to transcribe for FreeBMD, there is no reason why you could not, geographical location is no barrier. I am in the United Arab Emirates, and my syndicate co-ordinator is in New Zealand. As I mentioned earlier, most are scanned pages and are downloaded for transcription.

Well done Jennifer! (and the others who help!)

I have often wondered how it works and what is involved as I do enjoy this sort of thing.

Thanks for being so inspiring!!! :-)
Maybe this can be my new year's resolution!

Cheers
Cherilyn

Berona.
All the stuff you are doing free for Ancestry they then charge people to view. Freecen and freebmds is more worthwhile.

Of course as you say you might find something of interest to yourself when you are transcribing for Ancestry. Hope they give you a free sub

Thanks for all the replies. I put this thread up hoping to inspire some of you out there to transcribe. As Keith says you don't have to live in the UK, it is all done by e-mail and downloading scans to transcribe.

Yes Sylvia in Canada, I know Uppingham very well. I live on the south side of Rutland Water and walk my dog there most days.

Regards to all, Jennifer

someone in my freebmd sydicate has done over 100,000 entries - makes my 11000 look small! However as they say - even if someone only does i batch (about 300 entries) it all helps. That batch just might contain the info someone has been searching for for a long time.

Jennifer, I did not want to mention that lol. I believe that the most anyone has done is (on a quick check) 1,242,988 entries, so have got a long way to go still.

As you say, every little helps.

Jennifer

an old school friend of husband's has recently moved to Uppingham, and we visited with them for the first time in over 20 years! They were busy renovating their "new" house, so we couldn't actually stay with them

We stayed at the Lake Isle for 2 nights .............. a lovely hotel, and marvellous food! They even had a little tray in our bedroom with a decanter of sherry and 2 glasses, and a glass jar with home made "cookies"

it was a great time, and the first time I had been down in that area.

I think this calls for thanks to all who do this work. The rest of us are so very grateful. I am considering having a go in the not too distant future.

well done Cherilyn. If your syndicate leader is as good as mine you will get all the help you need. Some things are bound to be a bit puzzling at first. I still have to ask on occasions after 4 years transcribing but it is usually only small details.
