Margaret...The only Cornelious Brannan that may be a possibilty is as follows 1881 census.

General Prison For Scotland
Perth East
Perth.

Brannan Cornelious. M.28yrs.b.Ireland.

Cannot find a Rose Brannan other than in Greenock b1858 M.to a Sammuel Brannan.

this is the only death i could find for cornelius

Deaths Jun 1890 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brannan Cornelius 34 Burton 6b 232

The district Burton is an alternative name for Burton upon Trent and it spans the boundaries of the counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire;

if age is correct he would have been born 1855/56 about 5 years younger than rose

Margaret.Have been looking through the 1881 Census and have found the following Dougherty Family from "Moville" listed for West Greenock however it is not the parents of Rose ...possibly another member of the Dogherty family.....

71 Vennell
West Greenock

Dockerty (note the spelling) Henry. 43. M. Causeway lab. b Moville Ireland
Dockerty Bridget. wife. 38. b. Moville.
Dockerty Henry .son. 17 b. Moville
Dockerty Daniel. son. 15 b.Moville
Dockerty Ellen. daughter. 12 b.Moville
Dockerty Rose. daughter. 12 b.Moville (Twins perhaps).
Dockerty Margaret. daughter 10 b Greenock
Dockerty Mary daughter 2 b. Greenock.

Has there been some confusion between the Daniel listed above and the Daniel "Brannan" born Moville...????

The above Henry Dogherty married Bridget (nee Galenagh) Feb 12 1861 in RC Parish of Moville.....

I found Cornelius Brannan in the Prison Census my mum was delighted but still cant find birth records for him or his son Daniel Docherty Brannan my Family has a tradition of using mothers Maiden name as middle name in the next Generataion which still continues today
thats why i was sure i had the right marriage certs for Daniel HE WOULD HAVE BEEN 6 YEARS OLD IN 1881
Also my mum says Cornelius died in the poor house in Greenock but her memory is a bit hit and miss some days

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 7 Jan 2009 19:00

Well we have all been there done it and worn the t.shirt margaret so I wouldnt worry to much...

I have not found the Birth records of Cornelious / Daniel .We also use the Mothers maiden name so its not such a problem for me to work out who belongs to who when you do eventually locate a member of the family! It tends to apply also to Christian names..the only other Cornelious I found (1881) was in Cumberland but his date of birth was 1834..or thereabouts.

Can find no Daniel Dogherty Brannan in my Co Donegal Records or a marriage of Rose to Cornelious....that said the records are not complete and are taken from the original Parish Registers...Dogherty's by the hundreds and also found that the Dogherty's and Kelly's farmed land adjacent to each other...Many of the Brannan's emigrated to the US ......

Will continue looking for Daniel and Corn. They need to be there somewhere..!!
